My First Acorn Shield

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

My First Acorn Shield

Picked this up recently in a Remington knife lot, did a search and I don't think one has been posted here before. R3693 Cattle Knife Whittler, old bone scales, 3 1/2" and in decent shape with 3 back springs. Going to do a little cleanup to remove rust and grime, had to re-profile the punch by hand, it had about an 8th of an inch broken off. A pretty heavy duty whittler with those 3 springs, it's the first Remington with an Acorn shield I've picked up.

Hi 1967redrider, I like those slant bolsters! Original remington's are top quality. Great bone also. If only that knife could talk. Congratulations! Keep collecting! Randy

Thanks everyone! And glad my craftsmanship turned out on the punch re-profile. It did make me a little nervous using a bastard file on this knife. Here's a "before" shot.
