Re: Camillus 72 Clones
This arrived today. A 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife. It is another Camillus 72 variation for my collection. I can't find any trace or remains of a tang stamp anywhere. It is "unbranded" in that sense. I have determined that this knife is either a Schrade 863 (doubtful), an Ulster 63 or a Craftsman 9494. I'm not going to lose any sleep wondering which one it is. It required and it received a cleaning. I took some pictures and here is the knife.

I fished these two out of the bay. One a Schrade 863 with no shield and the other one a Craftsman 9494. Seeing them together it is pretty easy to see that they came from the same blood line. The Craftsman's blades are pretty worn down, it was obviously used a lot. The Schrade's blades are in really good shape.

Re: Camillus 72 Clones
Soon to join my Camillus 72 variation family, another Imperial, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, scouting pocket knife. Physically, it looks like it's in good condition. Cosmetically, it looks like it needs to be cleaned. When it arrives, I'll check it out. I'll take some pictures and post them in the appropriate location(s).

Re: Camillus 72 Clones
I'm hoping that the shield is silvertone, rather than goldtone. I can't be 100% sure from the seller's pictures. I already have one of each, a goldtone shield knife and a silvertone shield knife. The silvertone shield knives don't pop up that often.

Here one for you to look at.
It looks like a early 863 with a typesetter blade. It has bone handles and pins through bolsters. Is it real I just don't know. But it looks old.

These two Camillus 72 variations will be the latest additions to my collection. Two more Craftsman 9494, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knives. Each will get the once over when they arrive. Pictures will be taken and posted in the appropriate location(s).

Grant, I suppose that could be a type setter's blade but I think it's more likely the original clip blade has been ground down and repurposed. Just a guess.Shearer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 4:34 am Here one for you to look at.

I played with the picture of the etch on the main blade but still can't quite make it all out. Maybe you'll do better.

Jerry I can't make at the edge. The two 863 Schrade Walden N.Y. USA knives I have you can see the hold tang stamp when fully opened.jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 10:30 amGrant, I suppose that could be a type setter's blade but I think it's more likely the original clip blade has been ground down and repurposed. It would be easier to replace a blade in this knife as it has the pins through the bolsters where the latter one's have the swindon system.
Than again it could have been a type setter and ground the blade down like you said.
There could be so many answer to the one question

Skip, I like your 2 examples of the imperials scouts! I can't tell from your picture the details of their tang stamps.
Do you know if the color of the shield is related to the date of the knife. I have 2 silver and 1 gold and the gold has the oldest tang stamp.

Re: Camillus 72 Clones
I agree Floyd. The tang stamp on his "gold" shield knife is different than the tang stamp on my "gold" shield knife. Also the tang stamps on the "silver" shield knives are different. Apparently, there are three different tang stamps for this style of Imperial scout knife. I didn't know that. The one that is in the mail, besides not being sure about the color of the shield, I don't know what tang stamp it has. I hope it's the one that I need or the hunt continues..........

Re: Camillus 72 Clones
These two Camillus 72 variations arrived yesterday. First, another Imperial, 3 blade, swelled center, scouting "whittler" pocket knife. It has a "silvertone" shield and the tang stamp is one that I already have. Second, another Craftsman 9494, 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife. Both needed a little cleaning. I took some pictures and here they are.

I just purchased this for best offer. Another Camillus 72 variation, another Camillus 72Y, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, Yello-Jaket "whittler" pocket knife. It looks like it's in great shape and won't need any cleaning. When it arrives, it'll get the once over. I'll take some pictures and post them in the appropriate location(s).
