frost cutlery owns the name, probably made in the same factory as steel warrior and rough rider knives, china.

They appear to use 420J2 stainless which comes from Japan. http://www.discountcutlery.net/en-us/dept_21268.html and it looks like White Tail Cutlery is still made in Pakistan.

420J2 stainless can only be hardened to about 52 Rc (carbon 0.15%) and was never intended to be cutlery steel. It is very cheap and very very corrosion resistant, so they won't break and should make a decent dive knife. Due to the corrosion resistance it could also be called Surgical Instrument Steel or Surgical Stainless. Sharpens easy, dulls faster than other steels and it's major attractions are cheap and corrosion resistance which I mentioned above.

Here is a really good blade steels chart, one of the best I've found. It also has a definition of what each element can do for steel (such as Vanadium increasing strength, hardness, and resistance to shock impact and helps retard grain growth - heat treating). A lot of data on one page. Good for anyone like me who likes to look at components of different steels. I bookmarked this one with the one from A G Russell. I see a few steels mising, but they can be found elsewhere.

I knew they changed 440V and it looks like Crucible's CPM-S60V is a match for that.
