Thanks Tom! And I like that idea. I have some 4ft long 3/8” round fiberglass fence posts I bet that would work with.

@ Colonel: I believe that would work just fine Colonel. I'd just roughen up the part you put inside the antler a bit to give the glue a good hold. But those rods should be perfect for the task. Good idea!

Great pictures Wade! Thought I could join in and kill two birds with one stone. 1st your facial hair looks good. I have let my beard go untrimed since we started having church on Facebook. Every Saturday night I would trim my whiskers and shave my neck and a little bit on the cheek bones so I wouldn't look too raggedy on Sunday morning. This along with a high tight hair cut every 3 or 4 weeks kept me in the good graces of most folks.

Well the 2 bird deal is this, we ground and vacuum packed 50 pounds of pure red venison this afternoon for burger. Sharing this in the Outdoorsman thread you can see my unkempt look and also a few pictures of our little project. We still have a large amount of venison trimmings to make sausage in a week or so.

@treefarmer: Hi Philip. Nice to see some pictures of Miss Joy. Now I can picture both of you when reading your posts.
Never had chili, pasta or taco salad with venison but you got my mouth watering. Sounds delicious!
Yours & the Colonel's beards both look just fine to me.

We mostly have white-tail deer around here...but; there are a couple of herds of Axis deer, that you will occasionally see. On the morning walk, I ran in to this crew. A bit fuzzy; but, in the group photo...on the left...you'll see the sultan, of his harem. Tried to zoom in a bit; but, a bit fuzzier...

That Buck is a grand ol' fella! Are Axis like Sika? Believe it or not, I saw a Sika in Virginia on RT. 17 close to Paris, VA. Brenda was driving but I couldn't get my phone out fast enough and had we turned around it would have been gone regardless. That was last Spring, then in Ireland last September they were everywhere, same looking deer. They too have spots as adult deer.

Herds are from deer that made it out, in to the general population. White-tail have a hunting season...but; you could hunt Axis, any time of the year. They are becoming more populous, in the "Hill Country" around here.

We were told in Ireland that their Sikas came from Japan, introduced by game hunters, and then their population exploded because there were/are no predators, except for man of course. I imagine the Sikas here came from Japan as well.

Personally got the first good shots of the year up here, beautiful great horned owl hanging out in the treeline a couple days ago.

Willy, did you have a conversation with the owl. In my experience Great Horned owls respond very well to imitating their calls. I've had long exchanges with them.

When I had a game farm in my back yard, I had some conversations with them too. One bombed it's way through my nylon top netting and ate a call duck I had just driven 120 miles away to get. I called the game warden to get permission the transport it 40 miles away in an attempt to get it where it would leave my birds alone. he told me OK, but I'd rather nobody saw you with it. It worked, but the bird made the front page of the newspaper near where I released it, with a caption "This owl showed up here and seems disoriented." That was the plan and it worked. I never talked to the game warden to see if he saw the headlines in the paper.____Dave
