Do you mean from the antlers of European red deer? If so, no. I’m not sure if they ever have. As far as I know, the Case “red stag” I’m familiar with is dyed red, or just by chance happened to have a red tint.

I’m not aware that Case ever used stag from the Red Deer. Maybe they did. ::shrug:: I’ve read that in their early days they used stag from deer killed in Pennsylvania on a family farm, by Case family members. Don’t know if that’s true or just a story.

I believe I read in one of my books on the Case family that they kept deer on the farm for the shed antlers.

That’s probably what I read also. In that beautiful part of Pennsylvania I’d expect there are plenty of deer. Pretty sure since the 1960’s or earlier Case has used stag from Sambar deer though. I’m no expert but my understanding is some species of deer have antlers that are too “pithy” to be of much use for knife handles.

Maybe the knife mechanics who know about such things can advise.

The story was in Brad Lockwood's book "The Case Family Dynasty"I haven't seen any evidence of early Case Brothers or other Case brands having anything that resembles whitetail deer antlers for handles. It is from .y understanding it is too soft to hold up.The book was a good read, but had a lot of old family stories, that may be stretched a bit.

I don't believe that case ever used any American white tail or European red deer antler on knives. The red we see from time to time on older Case stag handled knives is an anomaly, nothing that was done by intention or design.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
