GEC Withdrawal ?
GEC has released a new run of knives every few weeks for at least the last decade. We love GEC knives. Many people here know in advance that they will buy 1 or more of every new release. Others, like myself, just happen to show up at the dealer site at the announced time to 'have a look' and end up with yet another GEC on it's way.
Now all this has come to an abrupt halt. Are you getting any withdrawal symptoms ? such as: restlessness, mild irritability, difficulty focusing, etc.
How best to manage this time of no new GEC's ? Switch to another brand, maybe try something completely different like higher end autos ? Or raid the secondary market and get 'new' GEC's, 'new' to you but not to the world ?
Or, just keep pacing for the next 2, 3 or more months ?
Maybe this thread can serve as our support group. We do understand.

It’s certainly hard. The 23 is my favorite pattern and I was really looking forward to the new run. I’m gripping my cash tightly for now.
Mostly though I’m praying for the health and financial wellbeing of Mr Howard, GEC, and all the skilled and dedicated employees. I hope GEC and everyone associated with it comes out ok.

Re: GEC Withdrawal ?
I’m already irritable most of the time, at least that’s what my wife says, so that can’t be one of my symptoms.
I do find myself checking my email frequently and reminding myself that it’s pointless after I do, I have no other motivation for checking emails apparently. I find myself getting hopeful when I see an email show up from CK, TraditionaPocketknives, KSF, Gunstock Jacks, Franks, TKC, DLT, JSR and a few others, only to be deflated that’s it’s not about a new GEC. I’m also deflated after the mail gets here and there is no knife. So I guess there is a rollercoaster of emotions involved here. Can this lead to a psychotic break, I wonder?

Bradford County ,PA has had 28 Cases ---522 negatives -- 2 deaths ----- Governor Tom Wolf is government out reach on steroids. You can't produce knives , most medical procedures are halted , but you can get an abortion ! You can buy booze , but all gun shops are closed !

Re: GEC Withdrawal ?
It might happen that when GEC gets back to turning out knives some of us who were used to getting a new GEC every month, might realize that life goes on just fine without spending $100 or more every month for another knife or two.
GEC was on a roll and so were we GEC buyers. This shut down might have some of their regular buyers drifting to other interests.

I'm starting to learn...there's enjoyment in using stuff, in the safe...that hasn't seen the light of day.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 3:10 am It might happen that when GEC gets back to turning out knives some of us who were used to getting a new GEC every month, might realize that life goes on just fine without spending $100 or more every month for another knife or two.

So might this mean that you will be less tempted to buy GEC knives once they start sending them out again ?Doc B wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 1:14 pmI'm starting to learn...there's enjoyment in using stuff, in the safe...that hasn't seen the light of day.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 3:10 am It might happen that when GEC gets back to turning out knives some of us who were used to getting a new GEC every month, might realize that life goes on just fine without spending $100 or more every month for another knife or two.

KJ, I think your statement of "life goes on just fine without spending $100 or more every month for another knife or two." feels about right. I think I was on a roll of getting a lot of the new releases. At least (for now), I feel inclined to be a little more selective. Re: GEC Withdrawal ?
Doc, i feel the same way. However "we will see" is true. Once a new GEC knife shows up at our favorite dealer, we will see if the old temptations come right back.

Re: GEC Withdrawal ?
I definitely miss seeing the new stuff but I had promised myself a while back that I wouldn't get caught up in GEC chasing of all the new releases. And I've done pretty well with that even before the forced closure. I did reserve a couple of the 23 but after that I am going to have to get the finances lined out to be ready for any GEC stockman releases in the future.
The only real purchase I've made during this time was a od green micarta 66 to finish off my set of standard factory release Calf Ropers.

The Pennsylvania "Department of Health" has different numbers ! 4/30/2020 (19 Cases) (687 tested) (ZERO deaths) That is zero death in Crawford County. This is good news for Titusville ,PA.

Re: GEC Withdrawal ?
Got three GEC’s in today. Boy do I miss getting these in from time to time. What a joy to open these and just admire the look and fit and finish.
Bob Patrick sent me a bonus, toilet paper and a knife pick/cap lifter. We aren’t desperate for the tp but it’s the thought that counts.

Nice trio, Mark!!! Those are super nice!!!
I don't know how much production will be getting done...but I see, from another Facebook group...that Randy Bell (engineer for GEC) will be going back to work, next week. He didn't say if everyone else is headed back.
