Thanks Willy. I do highly recommend it but its always best to handle a firearm, if at all possible, to make sure it suits you. The backstrap is reversible providing two grip options. It also has an external safety. But you can carry the gun without using the external safety. There is an internal safety as well as the trigger safety.

When I was in our small local gun store looking at ammunition I was startled to see a box of .416 Rigby. This is an excellent round to use against a charging Cape Buffalo, a Rhino, or similarly ill-disposed creatures. I asked the store owner if such animals were wandering the woods of Kentucky. He replied that the .416s were for groundhogs which I thought was pretty funny.

Mike, just to be clear, the gentleman was joking. He is getting on in years but was really into hunting in times gone by. Hunted bear in Canada. His photo showed a very large black bear. His trophies of deer mounted on the walls were excellent specimens.

LOL... oooops, I forgot to put a (LOL) after my statement.... Yep, I was joking too. IF you hit a groundhog with that round.... there wouldn't be much left except a red mist.....LOL.

I figured your gun shop friend was a seasoned hunter. Hunting bear is something I have never done. That puts hunting on another level..... hunting something that can hunt you back! Especially the Grizzly!
And the guys that do it with a pistol...... that is way beyond what I would try!

I am not a hunter, but have no issue with hunting done by honorable sportsmen. Some types of hunting bother me: hunting bear over bait like a pile of donuts. I'll only add that the single saddest hunting film I ever watched involved hunting bear with dogs. The dogs easily treed the bear. Then, upon being shot by the hunter, the bear emitted the loudest, saddest, groan I have ever heard. It seemed to come out of the depths of the very earth the bear fell upon.

The older I have gotten, the less I care for hunting. I have been there and done that so to speak. The only hunting I have ever done was for game to eat. I have never nor will ever support hunting for trophies alone. I really don't even care for fishing just for trophies. I like to fish and hunt..... I know how to do both and really enjoy a plate of fried fish or fried squirrel.... A bear would have to attack me before I would shoot it. We have small black bears in Mississippi and we now are starting to see alligators. Either of those get a free pass if they come across my path. I think I am among the "admire it" crowd now.
I hunt arrowheads in our local creeks..... We see all kinds of snakes regularly. We just look at them a few minutes, and keep on going. Too many people will be astonished and ask why I didn't kill it..... I always say, "Well, I was in his house.... he was not in mine."

Now THAT is the grip I like most. They seem to fit my hand best and don't hurt my hand during shooting.
I still need a set of target grips for my Model 28 (Highway Patrolman). It has a set of small factory grips and after about half a box, it kinda wears on your hand a bit.

Nice old Smith! I like the looks of those grips. But I’m with Big H when it comes to shooting. I like them pachmayr grips on a Smith. On my 1911’s I have Hogue wrap arounds. I am REALLY liking those.

Yep, everybody needs to have a favorite size pistol and grip size & make in order to shoot their best.
The six inch barrel wheel guns have always been my favorites. I like the way they balance and I seen to get my best groups with them.

Picked up this new Ruger. I was drawn to it by the serious YouTube Gunners, i.e. those with a public reputation and name recognition.
All were highly positive and uniformly praised the trigger which is exceptional: a short smooth takeup followed by a light break. I especially like what Ruger did with the sights. Its a standard 3 dot sight, however the front sight is much larger than the rear sights. In fact it looks like an express sight. Very helpful for my old eyes. The ergonomics, the grip, are superb for my hand. Two magazines are provided, a 12 round and 17 round; also a magazine loading assist tool is provided.

Congratulations on the SR9C, looks like a winner! I have its' long-legged brother, an SR9 and it is a pleasure to shoot, just a bit big for my concealed carry preferences. I do carry the SR9 on occasion, it fits perfectly in the same holster that I use daily for my SCCY 9mm.
I too have an old wheel gun or two waiting in the wings, never thought much of these plastic wonders but some how got involved with them. I love blue steel and Walnut, be it handgun or rifle, all the while knowing the polymer rifle stocks are more stable/accurate etc. I guess I'm just old fashioned.
The old blue steel and walnut .243 hasn't failed to keep the freezer well stocked with venison.

My reasoning is that if I needed greater magnification the shot was probably beyond my capabilities. I am not one for making calculations of wind, gravity, earth's rotation, etc. Frankly, I much prefer using iron sites. As you know, a heck of a lot of rifles don't come with them anymore.

I traded for my SCCY several years ago. I asked the old boy that had it how was it to shoot, he replied he had no idea he had bought the pistol and never fired it. It was NIB. Any way it's just a 9mm, the one without a safety and it shoots every time, so far. No jambs, they are very reasonably priced and came with a great warranty. Also at one time, if your pistol was being held for evidence in a self defense incident, SCCY would provide another pistol for use till the issue was resolved. They were very 2nd Amendment oriented. When I traded for this one, they were located in Daytona Beach but were moving to another southern state, don't know if all that has happened. I checked them out when I acquired the pistol and after I shot it I haven't kept up with the company's progress or attitude. One amusing thing, the pistols came in a wide array of colors because of the polymer frame. At one time they were only being made in 9mm and .380.
That's about all I know, it shoots, it cleans fairly easily and has been comfortable as a concealed carry.

Responding to your other comment concerning a hunting rifle, what you've described would certainly be a great rifle. Personally I find that the scopes with all the bells and whistles not to be beneficial in my hunting environment. I do use a variable power scope, not for distance but for detail. Right before dark I find the lower the power the more light the scope seems to gather. I generally have a scope on 4 or 5 power when hunting. I have always used Redfield scopes, way back starting in the late 60's. As I upgraded over the years, I found Redfield must have gone belly up and then were acquired by Leupold. Still have Redfield's on my Rem. 700 .243 and my Knight .50 cal M/L. These old eyes can't focus on the iron sights like they did 50 years ago. I killed my first 2 deer with a 12ga. dbl. bbl. and since then I can not remember ever killing a deer with an iron sighted rifle.

Thank you for the very interesting information Treefarmer. SCCY supplying a substitute pistol during the legal process is amazing. Sounds like a great company. When push comes to shove, I'd say that if a pistol is reliable it has already accomplished 98% of its purpose. I have a .380, well used and poorly maintained when I bought it

for very little money, a Grendal, Over the years it has never missed a beat, not once. Even when I tried to induce a failure, e.g. firing limp wristed.

Good point about using the higher power for a closer examination. Beats juggling binoculars and rifle in many situations.

Nice Grendel! They were the forerunner of the Kel Tec pistols. Not sure if Kel Tec bought the rights to them or not. I had a Kel Tec .32 ACP the flat out worked. Kind of snappy because it was so small & light. I should have kept it.

Texas Attorney General Paxton's response to Representative Burrows' request for opinion regarding the sales of firearms in Texas municipalities and counties, specifically, whether or not city and or county officials can prohibit the sales of firearms and close gun ranges by an emergency declaration, was released today by the AG's office.

In that opinion, the Attorney General has affirmed that firearm and ammunition sales, gun range operations are essential services.

Rep. Burrows said, “I appreciate Attorney General Ken Paxton's quick action on his opinion. Having access to firearms and ammunition for self defense and hunting, in times like these, is clearly essential. Municipalities and Counties eyeing emergency powers to temporarily prohibit weapons and ammunition sales, as well as closing gun ranges, would expose Texans to serious and perhaps fatal vulnerabilities. All Texans are grateful for General Paxton's opinion."

A little levity, for the times. Anyone else got one of these? I've had mine 3-4 years and so far, it has held up well. It's basically a pump action airgun that shoots a small "shotgun spray" of table salt. You have to be within about a foot, of a fly, to take one out. It's about as much fun as one can have on the back porch. Once you pull this out, you'll wish there were more flies around.

Fascinating. I did not know these existed Doc. I recently learned that the U.S. Navy created a pneumatic airgun and tested it on a battleship of the day. I believe it was in the late 1800s. No gun powder. The 16" shell contained gun cotton which exploded on impact.
No recoil, no smoke, little noise. The shell traveled a couple of miles. It was judged impractical for some reason. It would have been overkill for flies.
