Brand New from the 1980s!

Kershaw began its foray into the knife business sometime during 1974. The company was originally based in Portland Oregon, but most early knives were manufactured in Japan. The first US manufacturing plant was opened in 1997 & the company currently offers knives made in the U.S., Japan, & China. Pete Kershaw (an ex Gerber salesman) started the business.

Just arrived in the mail today, a mint-in-box Kershaw Wild Turkey, #4150 from the 1980s! ::ds:: ::ds:: ::ds:: ::ds:: ::ds::

What excites me so much about this knife is that in the 1980s Kershaw used AUS-8A steel in these knives.
Later they went to AUS6 and I have no idea what they use in the newest ones made in China.
IMHO the AUS-8A versions are far superior to the newer versions.
This will be my new EDC as soon as I figure out what kind of bone handles I am going to use in it! ::groove:: ::groove::
I probably won't get to it until after the first of the year, unless I get too impatient!

Have you seen the little brother to your model, the "Whiskey Gap"? I edc'ed one for years.

I have seen the 4100 Whiskey Gap, I have customized one also.
The larger 4200 is a great size as well.
I will have to come back and post some pics of the custom Kershaw's I have made.

Dale, I have what I always assumed is an older Kershaw. It is stamped 4100 Japan on the reverse scale and the blade is sabre ground. Do you know if this is a newer than 1980's Kershaw? I bought the knife used in it's sheath in 2007. The sheath in marked R456.____Dave
