Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

This knife will soon be joining the Camillus 72 variation family. Another SCHRADE WALDEN 863, 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife. The shield is missing. It'll get the once over when I receive it. I will take some pictures and post them in the appropriate location(s).

Today I'm adding this knife to my Camillus 72 variation collection. A Camillus 72, 3 blade (ducks etched on the main blade), swelled center, black bone handles, "whittler" pocket knife. It is in near mint condition and required no cleaning at all. I took some pictures and here they are.

I don't understand what is meant here by "clones". "Clone" means to create an organism from the cell of a donor organism. As both will have the same DNA they will grow to become almost identical. So does "clones" here mean knives made on the Camillus 72 frame but marked with some name other than Camillus ? Or, is it being used to mean any knife that closely resembles the Camillus 72 ?

WOW!! Seven months and twenty four pages later? Just change clones to variations. Really, don't lose any sleep over this.

Knives that are similar to these, but NO "true" whittlers.

This Camillus 72 variation arrived today. Another Schrade Walden 863, 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife.
It's missing the shield, but I couldn't care less. It needed a minor cleaning, it received a minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

This knife "should" be arriving within a few days. It's definitely a Camillus 72 variation. I'll hopefully be more specific when I see what it actually is. It looks good and if need be, when it arrives, I'll give it the once over, take some pictures and post them in the appropriate location(s).

Well.... I fished this Craftsman out of the bay....
This is the only decent pic I have from the seller...... The blade may be gone but I took a chance.
(It might just go in the parts bin.. ::shrug:: )

Yesterday, this became the latest addition to my Camillus 72 variation collection. It's a HIGH CARBON STEEL U S A, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. Most likely made for Sears by either Schrade or Camillus. It really doesn't matter to me which company made it. It looks like each handle has 5 pins. I didn't do anything to it. I took some pictures and here they are.
