Hello everyone, this is my first post and am hoping for some of your wisdom.
I came across two copies of what I believe are the original 1885 copies of Wostenholms catalog, not the 1970’s reprint. Might they not be original, was there an earlier reprint?
Was so far unsuccessful in finding any information on these, so any input as far as originality, rarity, etc. is most appreciated.

Doubtful they’re original, but could be. Mine has the copyright 1976 on the copyright page. Those don’t look 140 years old.

the expected 1970's copyright page is not there and hence my assumption. Additionally, the pages seem to have the age appropriate 'toning' and foxing, and the cover is a canvas based material. Would you be able to tell me what the cover material is on your catalog?

Paper, with yellow on the backside, yours does sound different. Two of the same, quite the mystery.

Interesting - without the initial reprint publishers pages they do sound original... That is one catalog I do not have but do know as alluded to above there should be a limited edition page in the first few pages from the 1st round of printing in the 70s (each was numbered: #/1000 or 1,100) but not the later 2nd round of printing - BUT yours does indeed sound original if there are no signs. Hard to say without the catalog in hand... Nice finds!! You say one has a canvas cover and that no doubt is different - what is the cover of the other?

Thank you all for your comments. Here are a few of the front pages. I do think that this might be the original version. Interesting that each has a slightly different colored cover.

Both have covers of the same material, although one is on the greener side and the other brown.

I have this catalog. It has the same page with picture of the factory and on the other side of this page is the "Acknowledgement" with "Copyright 1976 by Beinfeld Publishing Inc."
If yours does not have this on the back of the page with factory picture then yours could well be the original.

Mine does not have that acknowledgment. So if this is the original, does anyone know how many were produced or has come across one?

If it is original, you can smell it. It will have the distinctive odor of paper that has been around that long. I am not kidding.

great find but I wouldn't garentee that its dated from 1885 even if its considered 'an original' unless its marked as such - it was a trade catalogue that was reprinted at the time.

The smithsonian has one from the 1900's

I'd love to see any page than has their barehead single blade boys knives - 3 -3.5 inched

i've a couple and would like to see how they compair
