Ultrastooge wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2020 9:51 pm Wow, miss a few days and... nice knives everyone! Here are 2 that came today. A Frost Japan scrimshawed trapper, I believe it’s the Daniel Boone pattern, could be mistaking. Looks unused. The second is a melon tester with a tang stamp that is new to me. Had advertising on it but I got rid of it, can’t stand it. Huba? Anyone knows about this, any info is appreciated.
Very nice knives "D" ::tu::
Please post the Japanese Frost, scrimshaw trapper, here:

The Pemberton was an impulse buy but I've been wanting an Alox Solo for over a year.

Pemberton looks to be the perfect watch pocket carry! I have a Settler (adds a pen blade), but not a Solo yet. Is the blade straight or crinked on that one? I've seen some newer ones that; Vic, to save costs decided to use Pioneer blades.

Hmmm...… that's a good question. When I look at the opened blade straight on it does not look bent or crinked. On the other hand, the blade is not centered when closed. It favors the mark side and there is indeed enough room to fit a small blade next to it at the opposite end.

The knife was advertised as a "Pioneer Solo". That must be why. Thank you for pointing that out as I had no idea.

Haven't worked up a ratcliffe in a while ... this one is from '98, but it has nail nick recesses in the sides - I have others from this era without them ... maybe it's just an oddball. Nice knife all around ---->

Ultrastooge, I like the looks of your melon tester. And the basic design of the scrimshaw is very appealing. Hope the basic quality of the knife works for you.

Good morning Ryan. Is that discoloration, a shadow or does it look like the blade was welded on down by the handle?

Nice knife. It shouldn't take much to re-tip it. ::tu::

1st one I've seen as well. I believe chicago cutlery made folders in-house during the 1970's
My understanding is that most of the Chicago Cutlery Folding Hunters were made by Schrade and one or 2 of the patterns were made by Camillus.
I have not heard of Chicago Cutlery making folding knives but these knives do not often get discussed.

Ken that link to a 2010 thread does not have any information about who made folding knives for Chicago Cutlery, just some speculation. I just started a thread in the Schrade Forum asking about Chicago Cutlery Folding Hunters.
I believe one of the items purchased in the 2004 Schrade closure auction was a Chicago Cutlery stamping die. We will see what the dedicated Schrade collectors have to say.

This "might" be informative. It also includes some more links for more information.
