Phil I think that is pretty common for there to be an infusion some years and not others. It happens here I know.

Mel that is a very nice shot indeed.

Phil, I have still not had a single house finch show up. Two winters ago they were abundant. The birds that are hanging out here are a pair of Cardinals, Carolina Wren, Blue Jays, Titmice, Mourning Doves, abundant sparrows. That's about it.

Our resident Eagle pr.. This nest is about 10-15 miles from my house along the Monongahela River by Pittsburgh..Wooo Hooo.. Mom has an egg.. She laid her egg on Feb 13 between 6-7pm.. Last yr she laid 3 but only 2 fledged.. On the nest she sits!! Watching on a tree cam set up by the Pgh Audubon Society.. Will be watching them everyday..

Nice Sandhill Crane, Homer.

I guess the Downy Woodpeckers think it is time to start a family. Here are a couple of photos of the pair in my Live Oak tree a couple of months back. Notice how they seem to be pecking holes in the Oak galls and eating the wasp inside.

Yesterday when I was sitting under the oak I noticed that the Downy Woodpecker is making a hole in a dead branch. The branch seems barely big enough to fit a nest inside, but presumably the woodpeckers are a better judge of that than I.

A Mockingbird just now (2:00 PM) spent serval minutes drinking from the birdbath. The ice had melted sufficiently to provide water.
