KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY

Picked this knife up yesterday,was driving back from the dentist and saw what looked like a craft fair ,stopped in and most things for sale were sunglasses ,plants and beach crafts only one knife, a nice little pearl Keen Kutter with a little etching still on the blade.

That's a sweet little prize. If they are only going to have one, it might as well be a nice little pearl with a good name stamped on it. ____Dave

Speaking of pearl handles, after working yesterday it was raining too much to stop by and fish a bit so I stopped in a collectibles/second hand shop. Found this Case 82079-1/2 with pearl handles and stainless blades. Best I can determine from Steve's book it is either a 65-69 or a 79 with the one dot covered by the bolster - leaning to 65/69 due to the nickle liners. NOS condition, nice blade snap, and a good size (3-1/4") for a penknife. Carrying it today. OH

The only knife I've seen at the collectibles shop I frequent for diecast cars was a Remington Nehi Leg Knife; that thanks to you guys, I was able to later determine as being a Japan-made Parker reproduction from the 1980s. And locally, finding anything decent is rare. I did find a box of rusty beaters at $5 each at a local antique store, and bought one '70s Imperial Diamond Edge Stockman (like an 8OT; but shell-handle) One mistake I regret was not buying the rest; several of them were Case, which had maybe one secondary blade broken on them. That, I really don't mind on a beater--something I will be using for farm work; and other chores.

Cody, wish I could take you there - too many nice knives for my money- about six or seven of the red bone Case from the 1889-1989 Centennial set, a yellow Delrin big jack Case 3299 from 1975 and others - but I’ve used most of my hobby money lately on fishing gear and tackle. Awesome finds everyone!!..Does it count when you find something in your clunkers you missed somehow?… I found this Keen Kutter the other day that I posted on another thread but I figured I post it here also… I still have to clean it up… I also found a nice Camillus last night I didn’t know I had in my clunkers that just needs cleaned and it will be a beautiful knife.. I’ll post it later..I might start another thread for such knives maybe called “diamonds in the rough” or something like that? .I’m fairly new to this website and it got me looking at some of my collectibles I haven’t looked at for a while and found two knives so far I didn’t know I had…

Between finances and busyness, my hauls have been awful thin. I got the little beauty of a fed gents Richards - actually Richartz - from our Charlie C at knife club last week. I only have one other with the lamppost blade etch.
The sad old blue knife is a place holder, filling out that colour in my Richards. I’ll replace it when I find it’s less evil twin!

Picked up a batch of Aerials. The one without scales was gassing and I removed them, which was a shame because the blades are really nice. The smaller Coke is starting on the reverse scale so that will come off too but the rest are very nice. I love the big picture hunters. ____Dave

Dave, what a great bunch of knives! Are all of those in the picture celluloid? I searched "celluloid" here on the forum, looks like 400 plus pages of comments, questions and pictures. On the 1st page there is an interesting post concerning Case and their picture handled knives.
I like the red looking equal end jack.

Phil, they are all celluloid. I have had very good luck collecting celluloid handled knives. I have two rolls with antique knives (about 60 per roll) and none of them have outgassed in twenty years of collecting. I have had a few Western cracked ice and a few I've bought that were questionable when I bought them and I put them out in an open display and a couple of them get a little bit of discolor on the bolsters and shields after a couple years. I wipe them off with Wenol and they are good for a couple more years. Picture handle knives are a little more prone to gas than most other celluloid except cracked ice. I traded a 22 rifle to one of my sons for these. He was going to inherit the gun some day and got impatient and wanted to inherit it sooner and made me an offer. Now he'll inherit the knives some day.____Dave
