Help on an etch

I have posted this knife on the forum before under Keen Kutter's but need some help on when you guys think it was made. I was told by a fellow knife collector that the Hand Hammered etch was used very early on, not sure of the dates. I just bought a pearl handled jack with the same etch and would love to know more about when the etched was used.

Here is the ebay number of the auction for the pearl, 320282421277 . As soon as I get the knife I will post a better picture of the knife and the etch.

A search through my reference materials and old catalogs indicates this particular style of KEEN KUTTER HAND HAMMERED etch was used prior to the Simmons-Winchester merge in 1923. They used a little fancier version of this etch earlier on but the style on your knife looks most likely to date around 1905 to 1920. KK knives from this period were made in the Walden Knife Co. factory which Simmons happened have controlling interest in from 1902 until the Winchester merger.

I have Alvin Sellen's book on Keen Kutter knives, and this knife, with the pattern number K2740 (with this exact etch, I believe) is shown on page 116.

Sellen's says this knife was manufactured from 1905 thru 1916, which comports with stlouisknives info above.

I wish I had seen this knife first.

I want to thank you for all the info. Where do I get a copy of the book you mentioned. Is the patern number K2740 for the pearl I just bought or the bone one I show in this post?

Mike, that number would be for the pearl, I believe the bone jack (a beauty by the way!), is K1210, also available from 1905-1920.

I just got this in the mail yesterday and thought I would post it. Eric you were right about the pattern number it is in ink on the back of the main blade K2740.

Thanks for everyones help in dating the etch. I need to buy the book.
