Schrade Switchblade

Post by petesknives »

As I was examining my POS "gifts " at my kitchen table I also had this Schrade Switchblade that I was gonna take a few pics of. Well my Kat Pete decided to pull off the table cloth, POS everywhere! The Schrade ended up in the Katz supper dish! Broke off some pieces of bone from around the push button. I am amazed that I found the two pieces that broke off. Should I glue them back on, or keep them in a safe place? The knife doesn't work.

That switchblade can be repaired. Bill DeShivs or Muskrat Man can do it, probably a few more here too.

Since it's not a working switch, I would glue it myself. But, if you wanted the switch to work, I'd let an expert handle the bone repair too. Just my 2¢. ::nod::

And be nice to poor Pete, for Pete's sake.

I am on the bridge about having it repaired. ..I've always heard from coin collectors...Don't clean your coins. .leave them alone...It is what it is and I'm sure that there are better specimens out there..But this one is in my hands. ...and it's gonna stay here with me. ..It's a part of knife history and culture. . It's a nice knife.

I think the cat should live !! back to the knife, that's a particularly difficult area to repair on a working knife …. repairs in that area can end up causing the button to not function properly , its do-able but tricky. The good thing is that a donor cover is not impossible to find.

After assuring a tight fit I would glue the two pieces back together. After that I would check to see that the two glued pieces would fit up well back in the knife. If they fit up tight I would then glue them back in place. Use a toothpick to apply the glue to be sure you don't stick stuff you don't want stuck.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

A super glue should work fine.
