A great EDC

On the suggestion of a member here (Sidpost), I purchased a Maserin Plow. Sodbuster pattern with D2 blade and canvas micarta handles. Knife has half stop and lanyard hole. A beautiful knife. Razor sharp, great fit and finish, no blade play at all. While it may anger GEC fans, I think that this is as good or better than the GEC sodbuster. Better steel and cheaper. Don’t get me wrong, I have a few GEC and I like them a lot. But honestly, they are way overpriced.
I intended to add to my collection but I decided to use it as EDC. The sodbuster isn’t really a collectible, as it is not an elegant style. It’s beauty is in its functionality. This completely blows the doors off the Case sodbuster I now carry. I recommend it highly.

I'm currently at a bit of a Sodbuster conondrum. My only one is a Rough Rider (aka "Liner Lock Work Knife"), which at $10, I recommend highly. The Case is probably the most well known, and common. My local knife store, Tractor Supply, and I think even Walmart all have some form of it. My local knife store also occasionally has GECs, among them the Bull Buster and Bull Pen Sodbusters. And then there's the German Eyes. But, I too have been looking at the Plow, a lot.

But, I'm thinking about just getting the wood-handled Plow. I know the micarta versions are improved over it, but they're also more expensive. Plus, I like natural materials. D2 should outlast Case CV and Tru-Sharp, GEC 1095, and even Eye Brand's carbon. Really looks good in micarta, however.

Colonel: you’re most welcome. It only cost just about $51.00. They were hard to find. I didn’t see any here for sale, and I searched the internet extensively to find one. Site I found had many different ones to choose from. Hope this helps. Great snap also. Oscar

Cody: I sent you an email which I hope helps you with your dilemma. If not let me know and I’ll resend it. Look at both wooden ones and see the description of them. The cheaper one is $30 and uses brass liners. The higher price one (same as the micarta) has steel liners and better finish. Finish doesn’t matter much in a working tool but the steel liners are much more durable if you plan to use it a lot. I like natural handles on my collectibles but for a working knife, micarta handles are stronger and impervious. Oscar

When I received this, I couldn't decide if I add to my collection or use as EDC. Sodbusters are by their design a working knife. I have several, but the only one I have that may be called a collectable is Queen Country Cousin. also D@ steel. I decided to use the Maserin since it is currently produced. Either way its a terrific knife.

Thanks for posting about your knife. I have several Case and GEC "Sodbuster" type knives but I didn't know Maserin made something similar. I'll have to check those out.

Mike: you’re gonna like it. Better steel than the others. Great fit and finish. I like GEC, I own a few but they really are WAY overpriced. Case Tru-Sharp is junk in my opinion. Proprietary, they don’t tell you the type steel. They don’t hold a good edge.
