Info on Ranger knife

Looking for info on this folding hunter knife, It has a 3 1/2" lock clip blade of carbon steel with brass liners and silver colored bolsters (maybe nickel silver? And black saw cut delrin handle scales. The tang stamp is "Ranger L.B. 125, Prov. U.S.A. It measures about 8 5/8" open and 5" closed. I would like to know who made it and about what year if possible. thanks, Terry

These were made by Colonial Knife out of Providence RI. IIRC, the Ranger lineup was from the 1980s, maybe into the 90s.

thanks for the replies, I have never run across one of these before, interesting. I have seen a lot of Colonial pocket knives but never the big folder or a fixed blade. Always something new to search for. Terry

Your grandfather’s knife was made by Colonial. From the pictures, I'd say it was probably not carried very much and appears to have factory edges on all 3 blades.
Look in the Colonial thread here on the forum and you'll see a discussion about identical knives back about 12 years ago.
Colonial knives were not considered top of the line like maybe Case, Queen or Boker but they had great steel and would hold an edge.
Having grandfather’s knife would make it a real prize to me, hang out to it Jbise.

Having your grandfather’s knife is a real treasure. Looks like it has some light surface rust. That can be removed fairly easily by rubbing it with a lead pencil, which will not harm the steel but should remove the red rust. After the lead pencil (graphite) a soft rag and some light oil will remove the graphite, the loosened rust, and leave a light coating of oil which will retard future rusting.
