Wanted - Oar Carver
Good afternoon, everyone:
I am new to the forum, and was glad to learn of its existence - lots of helpful info here, and much appreciated. I am looking to buy an Oar Carver of Queen Steel/Cutlery fame. If anyone has one that they are willing to sell, please let me know, as I would be very happy to purchase one. Thank you very much for your kind help - I really appreciate it!
Best regards
Dan

Thanks for the kind wishes, but I lost the auction...sniped at the last 2 seconds. This is why I dislike eBay. Guess I will have to look elsewhere.

Hi Doglegg:
I seem to be having an issue with replying to your pm, for some unknown reason - I have tried 3 times, but the messages are ‘stuck’ in my outbox and only my first reply to your pm seems to have gone through. I think your evaluation is good, but is about $50 shy of what I would like to pay, I.e, I would like to increase the offer by $50, if that is okay with you.
Best regards
Dan

Re: Wanted - Oar Carver
I found this thread as a result of searching for a specific knife. I'm looking for a Queen Oar Carver Canoe Version II. I lost a bid on one a couple of years ago on ebay and haven't seen one for sale since. If you know me from my posts you know I collect the canoe pattern and this one is still an empty space in my collection. Couple that with the fact that a fellow member has recently piqued my interest in Wharncliffe blades and the oar carver fits. I'd love to find one for sale.

I hope you have luck, a bunch of others are watching for them. On eBay they bring damn big money, I’ve seen them go $250-300 a couple times. I have it on my saved search but they don’t come up very often.

All I can do is keep looking, eventually I'll find one. When I do I would be okay with a trade or a purchase, either one.

That’s all you can do. A lot of us whittlers are after them to use, I have one and it’s ok, but also won’t do all the cuts I need. The GEC pocket carver may be a good fill in for you, it’s on a Congress style pattern(not canoe like you collect), 2 small and 1 large Wharncliffe. I really wish GEC would tool up and make the Oar knives.

I have a GEC pocket carver and I would gladly trade it for a canoe pattern Queen Oar carver.C-WADE7 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2026 8:06 pmThat’s all you can do.
