A #25 Wharncliff Barlow from Great Eastern Cutlery would sure make a lot of wood carvers and collectors very happy, in my opinion. This knife would have a very substantial humpback Wharncliff along with small clip. Woodcarvers have yet to see a knife for whittlin" with this type of quality, as would be from GEC.

How well do you think it would be rec'd ???

shorten the bolster to about 1/2 of what it is and I'd own at least one

I'm definitely ready for a "whittler" from GEC

Their new little Barlow with the "modified" clip blade (as I call it) would be great along with a master clip or wharncliff and a coping type blade. I prefer around a 4" long handle though and like their current cigar style. The humpback 2 blade sounds nice too, I just prefer a slightly longer handle. Can't wait to see what they come up with! (maybe in the future a nice 4" serpentine 3 blade whittler

I agree with Don, I too like a knife with a 4" handle. Would like to see what GEC comes up with also.

I would like to see it be at least 3-1/2 inches long. Gotta agree with the others, a 4 inch whittler would be much more functional.

I do agree also about the larger knife. However, the smaller knife ALSO fits the bill just fine for a lot of folks.... including collectors.

The Barlow has been the fstest seller so far in new patterns. Collectors love it ... cannot remember a Barlow with a Wharncliff.

The 4" version in a Whittler is coming.

I believe I will also start saving. Though I had desired a Barlow, my understanding is that a barlow is traditionally 3-3/8 to 3-1/2 inches long - so I passed on my favorite pattern, I already have an abundance of 3 inch knives. Well, I'll just have to make my own.

When I have time to call my own.

4 inch whittler - now that is something I'd be interested in very much.

GEC is terrible at new product releases. Sure they have pictures - ABSOLUTELY NO SPECS.

Any new GEC pattern is good news to me. I wish the barlows had been a little bigger also. Their stockman and muskrat didn't really appeal to me too much - just seemed like the blades weren't the right proportion for the large equal end frame. But their pioneer, scout, harness jack and moose are great designs

Being one of the distributors, I don't usually comment. However, when I received the Barlow's last week I was a bit surprised myself. They are really like a "baby" barlow which a few companies did make many, many years ago. When I seen one I didn't think I would care for it but, as soon as I picked it up, I fell in love with it. Now my wife and I both are carrying one. It's beefer than a Peanut but not much longer, fits perfect in the pocket. I also agree that they need to make a full size barlow as well.

Hukk...yer right about the specs but, they are slowly getting their act together.

As far as Bills original question goes...I don't like wharncliffs, just not my thing. Of course, I don't whittle either.

I myself have been carrying a Genuine stag Big Cuban Jack and love it. (Although I would not recommend it for cutting squid at the pier. Or it may have been the salt water; none the less I decided to tomato treat it when I got home.) Today though I started carrying the 25 although mine is in wooly tooth. I cut some boxes open, stripped some wire, cut some tape and wire ties. It worked great; I will carry it again tomorrow. I am with the others at first I didn't think I would like it but the more I held it the more I did like it.
You will see this pattern in multiple configurations too.
Smaller bolsters you ask, yes and maybe a cap end.
Serpentine you ask, yes but a little ways down the road I believe.

As far as the web site not having complete information, I know and plan to fix it but I am busy working on many other things. Soon I hope.

something else you might want to run past the crew is about a 4 1/2-5" narrow clip or spearpoint english jack. 1095 and half stop of course
