Bolo (Knife) From the Philippines

This was a gift to me from a friend that was in the Philippines This knife is called Bolo Cebuano Language, It must have been hand made, they say there are a quite a few of them, there is no private name or Company name, In my own old eyes I'd say it a Beauty with a wooden Sheath! and the handles how pretty, I would have no Idea what kind of steel or Rockwell Hardiness this would be Maybe the Experts can explain, maybe there are some Filipino's can explain better?

LDF, that's a beautiful knife! Much better looking, than mine. I picked this up, in Guam (1992), when stationed at Andersen AFB. This was in a shop, on the Island. Think I paid about $60, for it. Seems pretty well built. The hand workmanship involved and the beauty of the sheath were what sold me. It has two different woods, on the sheath (like yours) and It's pretty big!

Interesting! It almost looks like someone re-purposed a Pal RH-36 blade to create it. Just out of curiosity what are the dimensions of the knife?

overall the knife is 11 3/4 inches the Blade is 7 inches 1 and 1/4 inch at the back of the blade in the middle, 1 1/8 of an inch, at the point 1/8th of an inch.

Those are a couple of very interesting knives, LDF and Dock B. Back in my teens I recall that a sporting goods chain store in my area was selling Bolo Knives. Those were a rather thick short bladed machete, heavily weighted toward the tip. I like those Bowie style Bolos a lot better.

Those are some very handsome knives. Here is the USMC WW2 Bolo Knife I've added to my collection. Made by 1 of 5 companies contracted by the Marine Corps. The sheath was made by only one company BOYT. It's hard to read but the one I have is U.S. over BOYT over 42 for 1942. This thing is heavy, I don't know how any Marine or Hospital Corpsman would have carried it into combat. Here is another link that will give you some specifics and history on the Bolo.

overall the knife is 11 3/4 inches the Blade is 7 inches 1 and 1/4 inch at the back of the blade in the middle, 1 1/8 of an inch, at the point 1/8th of an inch.

Well that lets out the RH-36 as the blade is only 6 inches long. However the KA-BAR MKII has a blade length of just slightly over 7 inches so it could possibly have been made from one of those. Here is a picture of a KA-BAR MKII.
