Old knife question (Art Knife Co.)

Has anyone heard of Art Knife Co.? I cannot find any information on this knife. The guy, I bought it from said the company was only in business for 3 years or so and I think he said they were operating in the 1930's

I find it listed (Goins' book, Price's book) as being a guess... circa 1915-1917. Goins says "Made in USA" is stamped on the small blade.

This sounds like one for pa knives...

The small blade says....Made in . The rest is covered by the bolster and I can't see it.

HI!

You have located a knife that I have long sought after. The art knife company was in business between 1915-17. Yes the small blade should have USA on it. Celluloid handles with photo's is common, but bone has been located also. It was purchased by Lackawanna which used it between 1917-21 The Lackawanna Cutlery Nickolson PA competed then took over from 1917 until 1930, it started out as the Eureka Cultery Company. There is quite a bit of history on this company but not the ART Knife Company. Something I hope to cure when I do the Pennsylvania book. One at time though. NICE knife, let me know when your ready to part with it

PS. I question the bolster on the one pic. Has the blade been tampered with?????

I don't think it has been tampered with. The pin is pulled in on that side. The other side looks ok. The small blade has a little wobble but I can squeeze the bolsters and the blade is tight, until I wiggle the blade a few times...then it gets loose again. I was thinking about putting it on ebay but with my luck, no one would know what it is and it would bring the price of a Frost. Thank you pa, for the information. I figured if anyone would know about this one, you would.

Folks,

Just wanted to let you know that once again I realize the fine poeple on this site. Carl sent me this knife without recieving payment and told me to look it over and make him an offer. HOW MANY TIMES HAS THAT HAPPENED TO YOU?????

Carl is a great knife person and was kind enough to sell this fine example of an early 1900's knife company to me, which I will proudly display with my other 60 or so Pennsylvania related pocket knives. It has been eluding me for quite sometime and I am happy to have found this one. If ever I can return the favor to any of my fellow knifers, please don't hesitate to ask.
