Anyone familiar with Tom Mayo? Based in Hawaii and is new to me.

Tom Mayo is a top tier maker, best known these days for his titanium framelock folders, and his use of Stellite 6K. He is also known for the holes in his titanium folders handles. He started making fixed blades, like the one you picked up, probably BG-42 steel. Nice scores.

Although my recent finds pale when compared to the previously posted hauls, finding a decent knife at a good price always makes my day. I measure my purchases in Canadian beer units. As in, the two knives below cost, in total, the equivalent of two pub pints plus tip. The problem is I’m meant to buy the knives instead of the beer.... fail.

Antique shop finds; Two little Westerns, a Boulder 28 kids knife and a Bird and trout stamped Western Auto, a pearl PL Schmidt, and a old horn French Laguiole stamped Sannajust, (as best as I can read it) No.39____Dave

Dave, you're calling that a French Laguiole. I was under the impression that all the Laguioles have a "bee" (either cast or carved) on the back spring. To me, the knife you have there looks more like a German/South African Okapi. It's that external spring mechanism and the wooden body of the knife that makes me think that. Does it have Laguiole stamped on the blade? If there's someone here that knows for sure, please straighten me out.

I think you are correct that it isn't a Laguiole but it is exactly the same pattern as the celluloid one I picked up a few weeks ago and that was stamped "Made in France" so I suspect they are both actually French clasp knives. The latest one is horn.___Dave

So I was incorrect and Laguiole is a knife pattern and even though most have the "bee" attached to the back spring, the "bee" is not a defining characteristic.

It's all very confusing.

Here is a pair of photos of a batch I lucked into yesterday afternoon. There are Case, Slater, Russell, Lamson, Camillus and others. In the 3rd photo are a couple I have no clue about. The long knife with the big handle was made by I. Wilson and I suspect it is something that might be used in a slaughterhouse. The funny looking semi-machete I have no idea about and it is not marked.

EDIT: I just noticed what looks like an English Broadhead on the handle of the big Wilson. If that is what it is, it means this was accepted for use by the Great Britain Military. There are 4 notches carved into the handle.

Very nice score! If I'm looking at the scabbard correctly, I think that "semi-machete" is Soviet/Russian.

It's funny you asked. I really didn't buy him out. This all came out of his brothers estate and he has tons of 'stuff' including about 4000 of the fixed blade knives. Mostly like the Russells and Lamsons, I think. He wanted me to buy them all but I declined. Fixed blades are slow movers and especially if they are kitchen-type knives. I took more of the fixed blades than I really wanted but there were some in there I really did want, such as the Case Rio Grande Camp Knives.
So if any of you out there have about $100,000 laying around I can put you in touch with him.

Friend of mine just gave me a Cabela's folder as a late Christmas gift. For a more inexpensive knife, it's really solidly built. And a decently thick blade. I think I'm gonna try this in place of my Benchmade Mini Grip for a few days. It clips to my watch pocket without issue, so may just carry it as a secondary. Of course, "420 Stainless Steel Blade" isn't 154CM, but I'll just see how long it holds up. Should sharpen quite easily compared to 154CM--that requires diamond plates and ceramics.
