Which Case knife pattern is ugliest?

I'm curious to know what you think is the ugliest Case Knife pattern? I have included what I think may be the most popular on the poll. Here are some pictures of each.

I know it's not pattern specific, but.......I'm thinking that ANYTHING done in that "Zebra Bone" should be humanely put out of it's misery......

. I even posted a couple of things on KnifeForums.com.

I hadn't seen the zebra bone until today. Can't decide what to think of it. My choice for ugliest handle material would be bubba gum.

I'd have to say that the seahorse whittlers are some of the ugliest knives I have seen. And I would have to agree with you on the buuba gum handles as the most unattractive ones you could imagine,but if they did a seahorse in them I'd probably get one just to show people what a really ugly case knife looks like. As far as the zebra strips go they do not look to bad on the 11 1/2.

The gum thing is awful, I can live with the pattern but pink gum colored YUK! I am a tratiditonalist and give me bone or give me death. Just my thoughts for what its worth.

What about the smooth orange background with black spiders and webs on it? Tha't gotta be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in my life. I admire the Case Co. but I'd like to know how many of those "halloween" kives they've sold. That's like the cadilac factory running production cars with pictures of pokemons all over 'em.

There certainly is no accounting for taste (boy that's original) because I think seahorse whittlers look awesome. Elephant toenails on the other hand I just don't get. I can't see how they'd be useful, much less comfortable to carry. However, I know there is a fanatical following for them, like most exotic patterns.

The only one I never collected was the Hawkbill, reminds me of a linoleum knife. On the ranch we used a hawkbill like knife to pick grapes, the ones we used were not folders though. If a folder was used, it would get gummed up pretty quick from the sugars in the grapes. Never used one for pruning, (used shears) budding or grafting. My gandfather and us would use whatever we were carrying that day, usually a stockman and I do remember grandfather using his Barlow.

Man that was a long time ago.

Anything that has Bubba Gum needs to be thrown out in the garbage. What were they thinking, or were they?

I think my taste changes daily. I used have no use for the toenail pattern. Now it's one of my favorites. I'm drawn to it because of the great big handle scales and I kinda like the look on peoples face when you pull one out for use.

I admit the seahorse whittler is much more practical, but it's just plain ugly IMO (I hope I don't get strung up for that comment

). It will probably be my favorite by next month though...

I have never owned a hawkbill. Don't like the laser engraved spiderwebs either.

I guess that's why they make so many different flavors of ice cream and knives ...eh?

I must admit,,,a ballsy if not curious subject matter. I have to say, initially, I wasn't big on toenails, but Texas Roger won me over. If a collector would like to see a mighty slab of handle material, the toenail is a great candidate for me because I think the clasp is an eyesore (kinda)

. If any of our members would like to see soime truly beautiful knife art, take a gander at his exotics,they are to die for. Furthermore, the market has spoken and toenails are growing near exponentially in value, I bet 'ol Roger is "giddy"

(oh, wait,,,maybe that's the Texas HEAT and humidity baking his melon) hahahaha, Luv Ya Texas !!

And,,,I personally have few low-run Seahorse Models, and I think they are a comfy EDC should one choose, and, look at the top down profile of that Wharncliffe, that baby is one tapered, beefy blade

, I like'em.
Other than the clasp, I think the 65 series deserves honorable mention for "yucky"

With all due respect to Case, send me any knife in condition,I won't chuck it, anytime. Some patterns are better than others.

I'd have to agree that the Sunfish/Elephant toenail 6250 is the ugliest knife Case ever made; I believe it was actually designed as some sort of rope knife. I wish I had a sackful of 'em, though, they do bring pretty good $$. I've actually been considering buying a Seahorse Whittler (since it's the only thing close to an original whittler you can find w/out paying thru the nose!!) I do have a question, though....every Seahorse Whittler I've seen is SS, I'd be more interested in one w/ CV blades, never seen one. ( I realize that most everything nowadays is SS, but I'm a CV man).

I think the ugliest knives I've seen lately come from Bulldog Knives. Here is a picture out of the latest catalog and these knives cost $29.99. If you want a scout knife pattern in this sparkle celluloid it will cost $49.99

Give me stag, bone, or ivory, don't give me this stuff, it gives bubba gum a run for it's money on the ugly list.

No disrespect to your cousin intended. I really like the pattern, 3 7/8 Muskrat but if I had one I'd have to send it to Jeff for a re-handle. The handles remind me of my daughter's kindergarten glitter projects. I guess I'd have to chew, good thing these 50 year old chompers are original equipment.
By the way, a group of Finns stopped by my desk a couple years back at Hewlett Packard when they saw my last name on my cubicle.
They told me that my last name meant Little Wolf in English.

if i were to vote for one pattern, it would have to be the 33092 which isnt listed here, but its the one with yellow handles and no bolsters. its not in production anymore, but you still see them on ebay sometimes and in my opinion, its the ugliest case knife that was made. at one time, i wouldve voted for a couple that are on the list here, but as my collection has grown, i have became fond of pretty much all of the case patterns except the one i mentioned. i have never had any likings towards that one. i used to not like the hawk bill pattern but i had an old case tested xx greenbone hawkbill that was really nice. unfortunately i made the mistake of selling that knife a long time ago and im still kicking myself for that. i sure wish i had that knife back.

Is that 33092 called a Birdseye?? Those have gotta have slop!! I wouldn't have one. Those 5 blade jobs are a waste IMO, as well.

Oh Ye of Little Faith!!!

I submit for your discretion...a pic of a 1995 very very rare Elephant Toenail/Sunfish pattern from the Sam Turner collection. This knife is very rare, scarce & hard to come by for three reasons---Ist. It's a 1995 year made, & what makes that so rare is that most 1995's in this pattern were destroyed in a factory fire!!!----2nd. It sports the 10f 9 made only Single Charging Bull Elephant etch (the total run amount for this knife with this handle is 1 of 100 BUT!! with this main blade etch it makes it a 1 of 9)!!!----3rd. It''s serial number is 001 with the long tail C & the XX which in theory makes ti a "one of a kind"!!! This knife is currently on display in my display case in my den!!! hehehhe!!!! I had the chance of a lifetime to purchase this sweetie, thanks to Roger 50/2050. Again it is a Case Classic-1995-72050 TortoiseShell (cell)-Case Oval shield-1of 100 run-1-of 9 Single Charging Bull Elephant etch-Serial numbered #001. I guess beauty is truely in the eye of the beholder.

The other offering is my case seahorse whittler with a warncliff main blade..This knife is a discontinued item....meaning no more will ever be made...meaning ya can't buy no more...meaning it is now a collectable...meaning, keep the ones ya have for a while, and if ya don't want'em sell them at a proffit....they will be much sought after. After all, a few years ago, nobody thought Stag would be a very hot item....

Not trying to disuade anyone here, just wanna make a point....whats important for one to collect is certainly not important to others....heck, if we all collected the same stuff....the world would be quite boring. I know people that collect chewing gum wrappers, I know people that collect string, I know people that collect salt shakers,etc.
After the death of a dear cousin of mine this past week, I have been made very much aware of this....do what makes you happy in this life, because life at it's best and longest is still way too short. Enjoy what makes you happy and experience as much as you can, always share the happiness, you never know when or if you may get another chance.

Enjoy your collecting and hunting of those elusive ones, that's what makes it all so much fun. later, kj
