Another 67

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Another 67

Post by Mumbleypeg »

Added a 9367 to the collection. As far as I know it was made only during the Tested era. I’m a sucker for swell center patterns. ::shrug:: This one was a Christmas gift. Unless I missed it I could only find one other 9367 here on AAPK.

Thanks Floyd. I actually have another one not pictured, a Tested 06267 with rough black handles that I carry on Sunday. It was a very much appreciated surprise gift from RalphAlsip aka Texas Jerry. Can’t leave it out. ::tu::

Ken, what is the closed length on that 9367?

Not sure when the Camillus 72 was first introduced (Jerry, you probably know) but the Case 9367 was only made for a short time during the Tested era (~1920-1945) and was never re-introduced. The Camillus 72 was apparently more popular. But I never heard anyone try to call the Case 9367 a whittler! ::poke::

Oh no you didn’t! ::sot:: ::watching_you::

IIRC the Camillus “Carpenter’s Whittler” was introduced in 1946.

I like that CASE. It’s a real looker.

Well, here's the deal. The Camillus 72 was introduced right after WWII - 1946. That's the best I can come up with. I haven't been able to find any that could be documented earlier than that. Camillus is the one that called it a "Carpenter's & Whittler's Knife". I didn't even know a Case 9367 existed. ::shrug::

Ken, glad you could add such a fine example to your pile of 67's. The 3 blade variant is hard to find.

It is probably a mistake to wade into the whittler discussion :) ... There is _3067 variant that is called a whittler. I have no idea what the blade configuration is because I have never seen one.

Edit: I should have searched for 63067 here on AAPK before I hit submit the first time. ::facepalm::

 I thought that whittler remark would get a rise out of y’all. ::sotb:: You’re on the right track Texas Jerry, the 63067 is a real whittler - and rare.

The 3-blade 67 is fairly rare and isn’t well known even among Case collectors, at least from my observation. Maybe if Case had put a coping blade on it instead of a second pen, it would have pre-empted the Camillus 72. ::shrug:: As ol’ Dandy Don Meredith was fond of saying “If if’s and but’s were candy and nuts.......”

Case made the two-blade 06267 until the late 60’s before discontinuing it, but evidently it wasn’t very popular either else they would have kept making it. I’ve always liked the pattern though, for its swell-center but also the sleek Turkish clip master blade. ::nod::
