cutlery companies

does anyone know who, as far as american made knives, actually makes knives, such as case, queens, bear, etc. there appears to be many names, but only a few actual cutlery companies here doing all the work, i am aware there are many overseas countries being contracted , but was not interested in them i have been told there was only five or six cutlery companies that actually make all the knives for themselves and everyone else thanks

the major cutlerys, queen (many contracted knives) and case make all their knives in the u.s.a. other companys, bear, buck and others make some in the u.s. and some are outsourced. others might have more info.

we have named queens, case, bear, canal street and g.e.c. this is about what i thought, these companies make there own, and for many other well known names , do we have any more actual knife factories no special name or company in mind just for my own information

There is Benchmade in Oregon City, OR. They make their own & make some for the NRA. I know they have made knives in the past for Al Mar and probably other companies.

Gerber is in Portland, OR. I think they still make their upper end knives here.

Leatherman Tool Group who make knives under their own name here in the USA. I called them and the lady who answered the phone confirmed that they make their knives here.

Kershaw made their name on knives imported from Japan, however I believe all their assisted-opening knives are made at their factory in Tualatin, OR.


Aren’t KA-Bar, Colonial & Utica still in business?
A quick check on the web shows that Colonial is in business. I called to see where their knives are made, but got voicemail, so I left a message.................................................maybe they will call back…?

Ka-Bar’s web site tells the country of origin on their knives. It looks like mostly they are imported, except the traditional Ka-Bar USMC fighting knife.

I couldn’t find Utica listed on the web…………anyone know about them?

You mentioned that Bear & Son outsourced...can you elaborate on that one? Which Knifes for example.

I have several Bear & Son Knives that all have USA on the Tang. (I didn't know they did anything overseas.)

I do believe Bear and Son are all made in the USA. I read this recently, but don't remember where I read it. Their website, I believe.

Thank's guys I was pretty certain that Bear and Son was all US, a friend of mine has them do factory orders for him.

A very great post I have to say.......We all should be proud of and support the American Company's that continue to make quality knifes right here!.....and I think we all get confussed from time to time about say a knife that was contracted for Queen to make!

I like older Buck knives but since I see all these slipjoint and lockback Bucks coming from China - my interest has definitley waned. I have some 110's to fix up along with a couple other's but after that, I guess I'm done with them. I guess that's why I moved to customs, because of Chinese knives. I'll likely sell most of the production except a few.
