Schmidt & Peters New-York/ Vom Cliff & Co. Germany knife

Post by raincrowe »

Another interesting little knife/Fob....This knife is 2 1/4" closed this little 2 bladed knife has a file, master blade and bail
I believe the handles to be ivory looks as if something was written on them in time....As small as this knife is I believe it's could be a watch Fob
The most interesting aspect of this knife is that the tang is stamped on both sides different companies
The mark side.....Schmidt & Peters New-York
The pile side.....Vom Cleff and Co. Germany
Not only is the companies differ so is the countries
I looked and couldn't find anything on this piece maybe somebody can solve this puzzle!! ::tu::

Simple explanation, the NY firm was the retailer, the German firm the manufacturer.

I have a very similar knife.
The main blade is stamped BLECKMANN and what looks like SOLINGEN under and GERMANY under that.
The pile side of the main has what looks like a bow and arrow with a B and an M inside of the bow.
The buttonhook is stamped GERMANY.
The handles are ivory with repairs on both sides. The repairs are done in bone.
On the handles is VEUVE CLICQUOT , which I believe is a wine maker.

Thank you for the information:
Have you any idea of the date made?
Schmidt must have made a lot of knives
I found two more..
Graef & Schmidt Germany...1940-1952
Schmidt & Ziegler….?-1972
Just curious suppose they are others out there?

I would say very early 1900s.
