It is officially winter on the Alaskan Kenai Peninsula!!! This is what my brother and his wife woke up to yesterday and he just told me they had another foot of snow last night. The guy next door has a big plow that mounts on the front of his truck and he is coming over to clear the driveway and parking area. Him and another guy with a lodge down the street are also the ones that take on the job of keeping the street clear back to the main paved road, about 2 miles worth.

Wish we could show a picture of Bambi but he didn't cooperate with the grandsons this Thanksgiving week. However the Blue Gills in one of the ponds cooperated with our 3 1/2 year old grandson and his dad. This was his first fish!

Tony those are some great pics. I’ve never hunted waterfowl, but it sure looks fun.

Yes sir. It is a blast. Pun intended. Lots of
Action when it is happening. It does have slow days though.

Had another chance to get the layout boat out this morning. It happened quick and early. Action was over by 830.

Here are some more pic's from my brother. 1st the lodge from the road. 2nd the road after it was cleared. 3rd and 4th the parking area up around the garage bunkhouse after it was cleared. 5th my favorite looking from the lodge back patio out of the Kenai River. More snow is forecasted for tonight!

Thank you Sir, but no I'm not better. The soonest I can get into a back specialist is this coming Monday. I still have faith it will all get better.

Well, things did not work out as planned. Drove home yesterday. Snow storm in north central PA dumped enough wet snow to bring many down tress and more than one ended up on our electrical feed to the cabin cutting off power. Went hunting Monday, didn't see anything to shoot and got back to the cabin that was dark. No water, light, or heat except a fireplace without a damper. Used water from the creek out front to provide water to flush. Spent a very cold night and the prognosis Tuesday from the ranger station said the power company was making no promises. One cold night was enough.

On a positive note, it was fun trying to figure out how to make the best of it. Access to the top of the mountain Monday morning was interesting with a few trees down but someone before us cleared them off enough to get around. Almost had a big doe jump through the windshield coming off the mountain in the PM. As close as I needed for sure. Attached is a pic of the cabin from previous years. Since everyone needs feedback for any service provided, we recommended to the rangers that a propane powered generator be considered. The cabin is nice, calling it a cabin is stretching it. The elk picture is the first elk we saw on our first trip to Sinnemahoning State park and Elk State forest. We would usually encounter them in the same small area every year but year before last the Forest service started logging that area and now the area is enclosed by an 8 foot wire fence to keep deer out to allow the forest the regenerate. There were usually deer there too and it was my hunting spot too. I have to start over again with finding those critters.

Looks like everyone else had an eventful weekend.

I guess I'm thankful for the sunshine and the 60 degree temps here in Ponder Country! My brother sent pictures and a text to the lodge owner and jokingly said "send more shovels," his wife said you should have told him "send more shovelers!" The old timers (no knife intended) have told him that if it keeps up like this and the temps stay consistently at or near 0 degrees you will see a big portion of the Kenai River freeze over.
There has not been very much trouble with bears this season, but with the road conditions and the Moose that have been in the area it's been very dangerous. On the state road that is closest to them near 100 car/moose accidents have occurred so far this year. Anyway here are some more great photos he sent. Enjoy!

Well I think they are still enjoying Alaska, but I'm not sure how much longer it will last when each day starts off shoveling snow.

Thank you for the pictures - I really enjoy this thread.

As a Connecticut/NY resident relocated to Florida for the past 20 years I miss the cold and snow until I remember the unique pains I would get from shoveling snow. And how much I missed the sun when March hit.

Just about my all time favorite moose pic. We watched this fellow work his way over a hill and down past a bunch of houses enjoying their shrubs along the way. Then he stopped for a little siesta on this house's patio. This was in Jackson, Wy. in 2014.
