Re: more Sandbar handles
Good grief! It even says “Sandbar” on the GEC label and COA.
Guess it’s time for a repeat of one of this forums’ classic threads.

You are right on with your comments about the “sandbar” post and it’s contributors.

Re: more Sandbar handles
I guess I am missing the point of this thread. My understanding is that the handle material is acrylic and the color/pattern is sandbar. Is the problem that the COA from GEC calls the material sandbar instead of acrylic?Cletus Awreetus wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 6:41 pm well, whataya know...

I have one of those exact Harness Jacks with the same handle - the seller should have mentioned that it is a Harness Hack. Some folks might suggest the GEC should add Harness Jack to the description instead of just a pattern number. That is just as bad an omission on the description as confusing the material and pattern of the handle, in my opinion.

Re: more Sandbar handles
The term,"sandbar" is a bastardization of the word,"Sambar" referring to a type of antler stag imported from India. I think Parker was the one that popularized the term,"sandbar"

Re: more Sandbar handles
Sorry Mel. The joke (to some of us anyway) is in the origin of the term “Sandbar”, which has often been confused with the term “Sambar” by knife novices. Unfortunately it’s not at all uncommon to see descriptions of knives saying the knife has “Sandbar Stag” handles, when in fact the stag is Sambar (or sometimes even some other type of stag). Which is the point of the old thread poking fun at “Sandbar Stag” and linking it to old James Bowie of the famous Natchez “Sandbar duel” and later Alamo fame.
The antler sheds of Sambar deer are used for knife handles and are considered by many to be the most desirable type of stag handle covers. Probably you knew that already, and I have to believe the GEC folks know the difference. I find it ironic that they chose “Sandbar” as the description. Certainly not a term I would have chosen. JMO. Not sure why they used it.

Re: more Sandbar handles
Thanks, Ken and Knife7knut. I have had my Sandbar knife for several years and it never occurred to me that sandbar was a play on sambar. I just assumed that the color and swirl pattern in the acrylic was similar enough to the swirl of a sandbar in a river that GEC adopted the name for that reason. Live and learn, as they say.

I did not know GEC was into deceptive advertising.
Will remember that.

A tidal sandbar in Fiji.
Odd how it resembles GEC’s deceptively named “Sandbar” acrylic….

I'm not so sure it's deceptive advertising as it's more having some tongue in cheek fun. As always, JMO and it's very possible I'm wrong.

Re: more Sandbar handles
I agree with Jerry. I do not really think it is intended as deceptive. For one thing, if someone knows enough about sambar stag to want it for a handle, then they are hardly likely to confuse the acrylic with the stag!

Just my 2 cents worth,which ain't worth a nickle
____ No where in the sellers description, does he say ""Sandbar Stag""
____ Sandbar is the color name of the acrylic __ you can even read in the ""Item Specifics"" above his description and see where it states _ handle material __ ACRYLIC ____________ there were only 24pcs. made with this color acrylic,so it would be a sought after knife,I would think ?? GEC also made some with Carved Pumpkin (6 pcs.) and some with Caramel Apple (23pcs.) scales and of all things they made some with ****Burnt Carved Stag Bone**** ( 30pcs.) which was bone carved to look like stag ____ just don't see where the problem is ??
I'm not young enough,____to know everything !!!!!!!!!!!!
