Case Stag Handle Fixed Blade Variation

A few more sweet Case stag for those who like them. Any "smear" on knives in photos is either wax or oil protectant. The mint Stainless one is another very hard to find knife. Case chrome on hunting knives is a wonderful thing until they get sharpened and get scratched from poor sharpening techniques. These are all on display in my got to go cases when I do shows. These all have their proper sheaths.

these are the rest of my near mint-mint ones, I do have a couple stag Carsons and a stag Scout but they are not this condition. I always liked the little 557s, have parted with some with different marks. All are available at the shows I do. Again, smudges are oil or wax protectant. The 5 Finn has some really nicely figured stag.

Here ya go Gary, a super rare 61 in stag. One of only four noted by Brad Wood. By the way, you are correct in that the little knife is a 5F but you should have it labeled M5F since the M stands for "midget" I must have had an extra vodka yesterday, I know well that 5 is stag and 3 is leather. it was the midget thing I was thinking of.

Nice one. Brad Wood bought the one I had . I think he wanted the Sheath more than the Knife . Will try and find photos

Gary, Brad told me he has 23 different stag 5 Finns and that doesn't include the M5F knives. Quite a few variations for a knife that was made for something like 35-36 years. Good luck getting them all, it will probably take some time.

In looking through the three pages of posts and the pictures posted by kennedy and gunsil I wonder if there is ryhme or reason for the use of spacers on handles even within the same era as defined by the marks. Some patterns had them and some didn't, sometimes a pattern had them and sometimes not. Particularly with the black band only at the pommel knives. Thanks to all who shared their knives and knowledge.

Here is my 5025-5 with the Bakelite pommel. Picked it up a little over three years ago and our very own David Anthony (Pa Knives) put me in touch with Brad Wood. Brad also told me that it's only one of four that he's aware of.
One interesting thing he noted was the sheath although period correct was more than likely from a 5325-6 as the 5025-6 was not made until 1963
The story goes as I understand it was black pommel knives where used for the war effort because aluminum was very restricted. Black pommels ended up on an unknown number of stag handle hunters, an amount not enough to warrant a catalog number or listing.
There is a lot of speculation in this and at the end of the day we may never know the exact story about the Bakelite pommels but they are definitely cool, Mike

Nice Case 5025-5 Stag Handle Fixed Blade . Brad tried to buy Mine 2 years ago and it wasn't for sale shortly after that he contacted me and said he had found a nice example of one and bought it . Maybe more will show up if we keep this going

He bought mine, it was brand new unused. He also has many bone and some celluloid Case hunters from my once huge collection. I hate parting with fine knives I have found in the last fifty years but I do like seeing them go to the best collections and Brad sure has the best Case hunter collection extant.

Just received this one in the mail today, a 578 I believe. Not mint, but pretty nice. Any other variations of the model out there? Case serifs is the mark.

Bradley sent me this info about 523-5 variation . The second photo show different variation starting from left with the flat ground (which Bradley believes to be the earlies 523-5) next saber ground with a pinned pommel then a normal ground version . All 3 are the earliest backwards slanting pommel ,the 1st two do not have swedge on the back of the blade . the other 3 are 2 with split stag variation with different spacers and one on the far right a hunting dog scene etch only 523-5 that Bradley has seen with that etch

I recently acquired a pristine, stag Case Twin Finn set, with the box. One of the knives is dated 1990 and the other 1991. The box is trademarked 1989. The $59.99 price tag is still on the box.
The knife set is different in several ways from the “piggyback sheath” Twin Finns I’ve seen.
Any information would be appreciated!

Everybody is showing some real top shelf knives in this thread. Those Stag Twin Finn sets are super impressive.

Here are a couple I didn't see above. The big one is a CASE XX Stag Rio Grande from about 1990.
The third picture shows a CASE XX Rio Grande that commemorates the Battle of Lexington. The knife in the bottom two pictures is slighly smaller and a bit of a mystery. It was a National Knife Collectors Association Club Knife in 1991 I believe. I have never seen this model at any other time. In any handle material. It is almost like Case did a one and done run for NKCA.
