On mine the pull was a bit stronger than most of late. This one would be a 6 in my book where as the Eureka’s would be 4 or 5. If that helps?

JSR Sports & More explains it all. Oil sucker rod wood comes from old oil wells. The dark ones you can really smell the oil in them. I use Lucas Extreme synthetic gun oil on my knives and guns . Lucas Extreme synthetic makes your knife smell wonderful. Not like Ballistol that really stinks. Lucas Extreme is wonderful for machine guns too.

I just was informed that the #86 BF knife will have a saber sheepsfoot blade. Have you ever seen a saber ground sheepsfoot ? I cannot recall ever seeing such a blade. Is there any functional reason for the saber grind ?
A sheepsfoot blade is intended for making thin draw cuts, like peeling an apple or shaving the hooves of your favorite sheep; i.e. it is a 'slicer' type blade.
A full flat grind is better at slicing than a saber grind.
A saber grind makes for a stiffer blade and can take more lateral force before snapping as there is more steel towards the upper part of blade.
A saber grind looks good.
This is all i know about a saber grind.
Am i missing something that could justify this grind on this blade ?

Probably because they need to have a thick wide spine due to the size of the knife, this is a big jack and a thin blade would look out of place. Pictures of mine next to a 77 and an original Empire Jumbo jack.

John, thanks, i did not know that the 86 is thicker and a heavier knife than other jacks of similar length. Usually these heavier jacks use slightly thicker steel stock for the master blade and a saber grind is not really needed for strength because no one should use it as a pry bar. (but we did as kids !)
I think the saber grind here is for looks not function.
I sure would like to see this knife with a different single blade version.

Very nice knife, the wrench shield is incredible. This is a stout little guy, and a handful. I would agree with the pull on earlier posts.

Don't agree on the Ballistol oil stinks post. It has a strong smell, but it grows on you. And I believe if you put Ballistol on a knife and pull it out of the drawer 5 years later, it will not be gummed up. Lucas oil I have not tried, but I have heard good things about that on gun forums.

The real work on oil though, is the Oil Field Jack # 86 is a very cool knife. May have to try and land the Tidoute Micarta version too!

Buying every pattern GEC releases and getting an example of numerous handle choices is similar to behaviour of those in a cult. Have we been subtly brain washed and then encourage each other here so it seems like normal behaviour ? However a GEC knife is better than purple Kool Aid.

Same story here. I don’t know why I continue to tilt my phone screen to my wife and say “look at this knife”. Because of course she is not at all interested.

But she certainly did make the effort to let me know that she DOES NOT APPROVE of the wrench shield. Shrug.
