Criticizing the knives and deeds is one thing. Seems like we ought to lay off the people personally.

Whoever that is, he specifically went after two members in particular. He had a couple other posts related to Boker knives, and was kind of harsh in those as well, but really keyed in on those two members. He definitely wanted to get banned.

I also, am disappointed in the personal attacks...

It is rather humorous to me, but the contraversy seems to have very little to do with the ugly, contraversial knife. I'm not sure we'll ever know the true identity of Malleus. I would take a guess that his vindictive sentiments were formed well before the auction of the calendar knife.

The Malleus Maleficarum[2](Latin for "The Hammer of Witches", or "Hexenhammer" in German) is a famous treatise on witches, written in 1486 by Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger, two Inquisitors of the Catholic Church, and was first published in Germany in 1487.[3] The main purpose of the Malleus was to systematically refute arguments claiming that witchcraft does not exist, refute those who expressed skepticism about its reality, to prove that witches were more often women than men, and to educate magistrates on the procedures that could find them out and convict them.[4]

Amazing just for my own curiosity I just took both knives out and weighed them not surprisingly since the Latima was made as a copy of the Schrade they both weighed the same ( digital scale was used. ) With blades and workings ( which I do not believe he is claiming are gold who knows perhapes he is ???) in other words the entire knife. they both weighed in at 1.2 ounces that is one point two ounces. The shame of this is that this fellow continues to compound his lies instead of just admiting that he did not buy what he thought he was buying because he simply did not know how to recognize what was being sold. If anything is to be learned it is simply a lesson about this fellows character or at very best his judgment and knowledge. The rarity of a piece like this precludes people being able to make claims which cannot be contested however in my case I own an example of both. While I doubt if the weigh of this piece is listed anywhere in print all I had to do was weigh them . The other obvious fallacys have already been pointed out by other posters on this thread. I do not know why this obvious stupidity cannot die a natural death and I cannot believe, especially after this, anyone placing any credibility in this fellows postings. LT

A link to the photos that were provided to the Schrade Collectors website. There should be enough information that some of the positives and negatives can be pointed out, compared to the original ones that were posted in the auction.

Yes he certainly took a lot of pictures if it proved something I do not see it. The knife has Schrade blades. The knife case handle has been worked ( niche rounding) as would be expected to produce an item like this. Please note that the handle is not embossed. Please note the sides are smooth no lettering. Please note that it is supposed to be 14k gold however is unmarked . Please note the letters in the monogram I turned mine over to show how they were done by Schrade. Schrade made one model of this knife it was embossed had the letters and 1937 on it. The proof of this is Sargeants books 1 and 2 which has one of the only pictorial examples of the one style model that this knife was made in. This guys zillion pictures only show that it is not the same knife. Look at the picture in Sargeants look at the one I posted does his knife have the same handle? They only made one model it was in 14K and gold plate and both versions were identical. 14K was always noted and usually these were also marked tiffanys. Is his picture identical to Sargeants? . Or is it smooth like a worked Latima. There were no customs being factory made no different styles of calandar knife just the one posted in the Sargeants book and in the picture I posted. The only one who I know of that ever made a smooth version was Latima. If someone took the time to change the blades they it would seem they would take the time to round the contours of the handle ect. SCHRADE DID NOT MAKE A SMOOTH UNLETTERED version. If you wish to believe this is a factory knife unstamped of 14 K gold by all means do so. However it is not. First this guy ranted and insulted to prove a point he apparently feels is important now he posted a bunch of pictures unfortunately none of that changes the fact that it is not a factory Schrade. I offer an example of both knives and validate with the exact pic and description in a well known reference book by a known authority. What more can I do to prove the point. Perhapes he would be good enough to show me an example of an unembossed unlettered unmarked 14K version appearing in a reference book that I am unaware of. There really is nothing more to be said ( at least by me ) if his lies about unmarked 14 k knives and being offered 1500 dollars rings true to you . If Sargeant apparently was another wannabe such as myself then by all means accept this fellows statments. I do not care I originally posted this thread to warn people about my concerns. If this guys ranting, lieing, and insulting have convinced anyone then I give him credit because apparently he sure can sell his mistakes. It is a nice knife someone worked a while on it but it is what it is and it aint factory. LT PS notice my knife is a bit discolored ect that is because it was made in 1937 notice how nice and new his looks it must have been put away and unused all these years isnt that a lucky coincidence. Not even any wear on the handles. PPS I just noticed pic #23 which is in the group it shows the knife and the Sargeant pic if you enlarge it it shows the unembossed handle sans the lettering which all originals had. The point is the only pic he could show was the one which makes my point.

Well, that sums it up beautifully! If it is 1.2 oz, US or Avoirdupois (16 oz = 1 LB) rather than Troy (12 oz = 1LB) and 14kt gold is 58.3% pure then the gold is not worth very much at all after allowing for blade steel and backspings - etc.

Sounds like some of the misundertanding is cultural as far as comments made about about the knife. I dont know much about it but for a few years I have been occasionally watching Solid 14 Karat Gold knives (all makes) sell on ebay at different times, they often dont seem to sell for very much at all, why they dont is a bit of a mystery to me, Ive often wondered if they even sell for their worth in actual Gold content. Im no expert here its just a casual observation.

To see for yourself just type in "gold knife" in ebay serach engine"

the real knife(LT's) weighed 1.2 oz. that frame, rendered in 14k solid gold would weigh considerably more i would think. ::shrug::

I would not be surprised if LTs was worth alot just most of them (in Gold) dont seem to be. Its a discrase to a knife if it can even fetch its weight in gold.

The steel Latimas weight was also 1.2oz. It is made of steel, This is a very rare knife I have seen perhapes a dozen and owned a couple over the last 55 years. That I have been a student of this study. I would imagine that this fellow being from Australia has seen many more of them than I have they must be quite prevelent in the outback.. Actually in reality I would guess that until he bought this piece he had never seen another aside from the picture in Sargeant still he knew from the ad and is even more insistent now that this piece is correct. ( which is based on his superior knowledge of this item and not the fact that he got caught out because he assumed that because the knife was similar it was real he simply did not know that they only made one model ) I on the other hand just being a wannabe used to answer questions just such as this for Schrade . The knife is different from the ones they made. It is similar and designed to be . This model is a rare high end piece the perfect type to copy . These were made in 1937 the calandar and the date on the handle attest to this that is why the real ones have the date. on the handle. . The knife is in pristene unused condition and is over 70 years old (like new). If you were to copy this piece what do you think would be the tough part to change rounding it a bit, a nail niche, or perhapes might it be just a tad tougher to imitate the exact inlet lettering or the embossing. By the way if the knife were gold if anything it would be lighter why ??? well which costs more and would be thinner???? If this were a rare stamp instead of a knife and had this many anomalitys especially since there are no substanciated references to another piece like this. With only the real Schrade and the Latima version being known if this were a stamp do you think it would be deemed a fake? No lets not call it a fake it is simply not an original factory Schrade issue. That is the point. You cannot fluff off the differences simply because the knife is similar any more than you can disregard difference in any artifact that makes them real or copies. You may however in spite of any logic or reason except the knife as a Schrade factory knife however you would still be wrong. If someone could just produce another one of these in a reference book or show some documentation . Perhapes someone could construct another , This fellow is a classic case of just not wanting to admit he was and is wrong his fabricated 1500 dollar just for gold content story ( again I have not seen the postings so this is just what I have been told ) if true only shows that he has a great er lets say imagination it is good to know that he has such credibility and is considered such an expert I stand in awe. In fact if he or anyone will simply show me similar proof such as I have a picture referenced in a respected source. and a similar knife to go with it as well as the version from Latima I will be happy to reverse my opinion. However until then all I ask, is that until then he reverse his. By the way his pictures are very nice does the knife in them look like exactly the same knife in the Sargeant book? If not it only makes the point since that is the model they made, the 14 K version were identical having the embossing and lettering. This is my opinion I am done restating it if any one wants to differ with it I certainly respect that and upon someone showing me similar proof as I have offered to explain my opinion, to explain and prove theres I would be willing to amend that opinion . Until then showing pretty pictures which only show and further point out the apparent differences is not sufficient. LT

I meant to post my posting above before yours.

As far as the knife is concerned I will be amazed if anyone would know more about this than you do and as far as the comments made about the person on the other forum I would advise to completely ignore any second hand comments.

Thanks for the invaluable info, I am amazed that someone could know so much about a knife that is as old and rare as you do. For me it has substantiated you as a leading authority again.
Regards Tim
