Zippo Knives

Zippo is probably most well known for their lighters. However, for advertising use, they've been selling knives since the 1960s, at least. I think Case made them for Zippo, even before Zippo bought Case out in 1993.

In my opinion, they are excellent value for the money. Since mostly having been sold for advertising use, they are cheap on the secondary market. But, the fit and finish is excellent, and the steel used holds a great edge.

Cut About, I'm thinking late 1990s. Advertises Doral cigarettes. I don't smoke (and I can't stand secondhand smoke), but I don't really mind the ad on the knife. Besides, I think this was the only one produced in big numbers in which a sheath was provided. All promo products companies who have old stock Cut About knives (last produced in 2007) seem to also offer a sheath as an option. And besides, it cost me less than ten dollars.

At 3 3/8 closed, it's on the small side, but can still tackle heavy jobs.

The rather high quality sheath. Made in USA, not Mexico as most seem to be these days. The knife itself is about the right size for pocket EDC, thus a sheath really isn't necessary, but on my belt, I don't even notice it, and it's easier to access.

Cut belt slot, something I dislike, but Case seemingly is obsessed with using them on their sheaths as a cost-cutting measure, but have never had one tear.

Pocket Knife. This was my first Zippo knife, bought about 3-4 years ago. While this knife is from the 1970s, during which American LaFrance (a once household name in fire apparatus) was based in Elmira, New York; from 1986-1994; under ownership of Figgie International, their main plant and offices were in Bluefield, Virginia; not far from where I live (about ten minutes). They would then be sold to Freightliner (under which they would achieve great success), only to then be sold to Patriarch Partners/Lynn Tilton Trust, under which they would flounder under mismanagement; finally closing up for good in 2014.

Interestingly enough, the tang stamp appears on what I view as the back of the knife; on the side where the company slogan is engraved and printed, not the emblem side.

This isn't a user. One of my very few boxed knives. It is still in the original box; which is a little shelf worn, but still there.

I have another Pocket Knife I bought for EDC; advertising a machine shop (H&S Machine)out of MA, which came as a part of a lot. It was made in 1974 to celebrate their 25 anniversary, and they're still in business. I'll try to find that one and post it here.

Nice assemblage of Zippos! I have several of the knives as well as a bunch of the money clip models. It makes for an interesting collection.The last Zippo knife I got had a sheath with it which like you said is a bit unnecessary given the size of the knife.

I've got 2- both advertising knives, one for Luck Stone that I found when shoveling snow after a snow storm and a Cumberland Motive Power CSX in a plastic case with the little leather sheath. Who says stainless won't rust? Actually the lock-back spring is broken on the Luck Stone knife too, probably rust related.

I like that CSX and good story on finding the Luck Stone. The only thing I ever find when shoveling snow, is the occasional patch of yellow in areas frequented by my dog.

Once when I was a kid I found a $5 bill in a snow bank, would of thought it was a gold brick.

My uncle gave me the CSX Zippo; he, my dad and my younger brother worked/work at the CSX yards in Cumberland, MD. Our family farm is located in Cumberland too.

Here is one I picked up along the way. Zippo or Case made hundreds of these for the Navy's different ships and then they were sold in the ship's store right along side the Zippo lighters with the same logo on it. Back in my day you could get the knife for under $10 onboard the ship.

They were popular to have engraved and present 30 years ago. I was given this one when transferring ARNG units back then. It’s still in the box - when handled you can tell it is well made. OH

Here are my Zippo knives and money clips.As an aside one of the ways you can tell a Zippo money clip knife from the others like Imperial is the sides of the Imperial are flat while the Zippos are curved.Also I have noticed there are at least three different tang stamps for the money clip knives.
The knife advertising Guild guitars and amplifiers is the only one I have seen that has advertising on both sides and no clip.

the knives.BTW I forgot to add that the General Electric one in the previous post is not a knife but rather a pair of golf ball markers in a knife handle.

Nice, Ray! I knew you would have a few to add to this thread. What's the length of the Royal Rental or the orange one? I would EDC a Zippo if I wasn't afraid of the logo being worn off.

John:The background is 1 inch squares so the length of the plastic handled models is about 3 1/2".The metal handled ones are a bit shorter.

Recently, this lobster, pattern or style of advertising pocket knife, arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. This particular pocket knife was NOT the reason for my purchase. It is a ZIPPO, one blade, one tool (a file), two tang stamps, 1 1/8" X 2" closed, advertising, lobster pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "ZIPPO (over) BRADFORD PA." The tool front tang stamp also says "ZIPPO (over) BRADFORD PA." One handle side has an image of a domed building and says "AMERICAN SOCIETY - FOR METALS" The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. I don't know if this pocket knife had a money clip, but it doesn't have one now. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

It is a zippo, one blade, one tool (a file), two tang stamps, 1 1/8" X 2" closed, advertising, money clip, lobster pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "zippo (over) BRADFORD, PA." The tool front tang stamp also says "zippo (over) BRADFORD, PA." One handle side has a 1st with a globe logo(?) and says "Eutectic - FIRST IN - MAINTENANCE - WELDING - TECHNOLOGY - Castolin" The other handle side is the money clip. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
