Great Gnatcatcher photos, amazing quality and amazing that you were able to capture images of those active birds. I usually identify them from the buzzing noise they make because they move around too much for a quick visual I.D. Nice to see them, we said goodbye to them a couple of months ago in Illinois.

Not many winter visitors in our area, but I have been seeing Marsh Hawks the last few days.

I'll go with chipping sparrow.

Chipping sparrow doesn't have the streaks on the breast.

While walking at the pond today, I thought I would look into where the two Mallards like to hold up.
Sure enough, they were there. Time has changed there little abode but they still feel secure back in there.
They are so cool.

We don't have a lot of them here but this one shows up on occasion. My only photo of it.

Phil and Steve I would be pleased to share some with you. Unfortunately I only have this one. He may be a scout and perhaps more will show up. They have in past winters but they are more common in the West. Also believe I had a Tree sparrow but couldn't get a photo of it.

Do squirrels get into your suet? I wouldn't mind putting some out if it did not appeal to the tree rats.

Not yet Ray. I've placed the suet just outside my living room window. They don't come up on the porch. I believe they consider it too far away from the big trees they need for their escapes.

I like that Junco, Quick Steel. None have made here, as yet. Juncos have always made me think of a boat that is painted white below the waterline. Most years a few will show up in our garden by solstice time. Cool (Chipping?) sparrows too!

WillyCamaro, I thought that the barn swallows would be long gone from Saskatchewan by this time of year. By the way, this post is the first time in 66 years that I have used the word Saskatchewan! Thanks for the photos and expanding my vocabulary!

No Junco's down here yet QS. Some years a lot and some years not so much.

You would not believe the racket going on outside my window. A baby chick magpie is following dad around while he is picking worms out of the lawn to feed it. You would not think something so small could make that much noise. I would take a photo, but dad is very protective and flies off if you approach, with chick in tow. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Carolina Wren. Other birds stay away from it because of its rapier-like beak which it doesn't hesitate to employ. Even Jays stay away.

Great pics QS. The one that sometimes hangs around here is strictly a ground feeder. Always looking under leaves and mulch.
