BOUGHT OLD WOODEN TACKEL BOX FOUND KNIFE IN ONE OF THE DRAWERS.I COLLECT OLD FISHING LURES .THE KNIFE IS SCHRADE WALDEN,MEASURES 4 INCHES CLOSED HAS A CLIP,SPEY,SHEEPFOOT BLADES.CLIP BLADE STAMPED SCHRADE WALDEN N.Y. U.S.A.BACK OF BLADE STAMPED(881Y)SOMEONE HAS REPLACED HANDLES WITH A GREY MATERIAL OF SOME KIND.CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT TYPE OF HANDLE THESE MIGHT BE?LIKE I SAID BEFORE THEY ARE GREY IN COLOR AND HAVE MICROSCOPIC METAL SPECKS IN THE HANDLES.(WOULD THIS KNIFE BE WORTH REPLACING HANDLES WITH BONE OR WOULD THE KNIFE BE A WORTHLESS BONE HANDLED KNIFE WHEN I FINISH? WAS THIS A CHEAP SCHRADE KNOCKOFF WHEN IT WAS MADE BECAUSE IN MY SEARCH I BELIEVE THESE KNIVES HAD YELLOW DELRIN HANDLES?SORRY FOR SO MANY QUESTION IN ONE POST.

The 'Y' in 881Y means yellow. So yeah, it has been rehandled, and polished up as well. It is a genuine Schrade. You can't really raise or lower the value of the knife by anything you do with it. Have with it.

The grey material looks like a plastic of some kind…
I agree with Gr8Scout in that there is probably not much you can do with the knife to make it more valuable monetary speaking, but it can nonetheless be a valuable knife to you. It obviously has a history as a user, it has been rehandled and it came in your possession in a special way.
It may not the prettiest of knives with those handles, but it is something special and I think I would keep it as is and maybe take it fishing sometimes…

thanks for the thought,it would be a shame to change the handles,after the guy put so much time,effort,hard work and heart into this knife.he must have loved the old knife to go to all the pains to repair.so i guess i'll just keep as is and put it to work useing it.true value is in the eye of the maker(of the handles).
