Gift Knife

A friend of mine was out in Arizona and picked this for me. Not exactly my cup of tea, but he knows that I'm a knife collector. Anytime I receive a gift knife no matter what it is, is special. That someone thought of me and my passion for all things with an edge while they were on vacation or whatever is a good feeling. These knives have a special place in my collection.

I'm with you. Gift knives (or gift anything) have a home here as long as I continue to suck air. They remind us that we have a special place in the heart of the gifter.

It's always a nice gesture. My wife bought me a cheap no name knife a few years ago that had the U.S. flag on the handle, just because she knew I collected knives and knows how patriotic I am. Might not be the prettiest one in my collection but it means something to me.

Every knife that has been gifted to me is special and I always document the story behind it.No matter whether it is worth several thousand (I have one of those)to an inexpensive Pakistani made barlow,they will always have a special place in my heart.

Nice words, you should make a thread where all members post pics of their gift knives. I have a few of them. One from my wife, one from my mom, one from my boss & a unused military issue sharpening stone from a colleague. And then three more knives that colleagues sold or traded to me for a frienship's price. 1 Gerber for 5-Euro's, 1 Camillus for a five Euro lunch & another Camillus for some Season All seasoned salt.

Had lunch with my insurance man two days ago (we served as LT’s in the Guard together many years ago). As I was leaving he gave me a small box and said Merry Christmas, thanks for your friendship! The box contained this German Boker - he also told me “I want you to use it” so I have. OH

Yeppers...Gifted knives are GREAT...and have a special place in our collections. Those are the knives that hold sincerity, love, devotion, gratitude, caring...and so much more. Each one has their own story...

Over the years I've received a few gift knives, many of which I would never have bought for myself. Some (mostly from my wife's family ) just aren't my taste in knives. Others are knives I wanted and am thrilled to have, but I wouldn't have spent the money to buy them. Regardless, they're all special to me because of reasons already stated in this thread. I still have every one of them!

The only exceptions are some of those wonderful examples of the cutlers art I have received in the AAPK POS exchange. Some of those are so stupendous that I feel compelled to share with others!

My daughters boyfriend got this for me last year for my birthday. He knows how to make points with the old man! Nice stag and the file work is nice too. Only knife I have with a Damascus blade. Don't know where it was made. Don't knives have to be marked/stamped where they were made? If it is from Pakistan it is well made unlike other knives I have seen from there. Could the stamping be hidden like on the inside liner?

I recieved 4 gift knives for Christmas this year & sence we exchange gifts on Christmas Eve in Germany I can show you guys three of the 4 knives I recieved.

The 4th knife ( a 2003 / Case XX / 6468SS small congress ) was hand delivered to my mom's house yesterday by a very kind & generous AAPK member (1967redrider). It's not only an unbelievable Christmas gift, it also brings me one step closer to completing my "Case Family" set. Thank you very much John!!! Your really too kind! I owe you one my friend!

So here are the three knives I have here. I will post pictures of the Case when it is sent to me.:

1.) RR "Dog Bone Jack" from my wife. When I opened the secondary blade, it cut the Lanyard off that held the dog whistle. I retied the whistle on the other end of the lanyard but again, by opening the secondary blade it was cut off. Oh well. The whistle works well & the slip or sheath with a clip is very practical for your belt or I like it in the right corner of my front right jeans pocket.

2.) RR mini congress from my daughter. She liked the color, plus I'm a Ravens fan.

3) Elk Ridge Texas Toothpick from my Aunt & Uncle in Hagerstown MD.

Thanks to all the givers!!! I'm very thankful & I enjoy them all!

Nice knives Tom. It's a shame about the lanyard on the dog whistle knife.
