This is an 1139 Brown bone handle It's probably pretty hard to pinpoint the exact age from 1891 to 1963 can an old timer tell me this? I had this for 30+ years, Still in pretty good shape. I'm sure there is plenty of these around. but maybe not as in good shape as this old bird

Great looking knife, why is the tang stamp on the pile side? Was this something Cattaraugus did on their knives? I've seen it on their single blade barlow but I just assumed they did that because the bolster said Cattaraugus on it already.

I see experts (in my opinion) have chimed in so don't take my thoughts too seriously, but, I have a Cattaraugus Barlow with a 2159 stamp & I see other 4-digit pattern numbers when I search AAPK stores by the brand. I agree that that's a good looking knife.

There are plenty of Catt's with 4-digit pattern numbers. The problem might be that the first digit of the pattern number indicates the number of blades. In this case, the "1" indicates a 1-blade knife.

That's my main issue, should be a 2 not a 1. Kind of odd that the pattern number isn't on the pile side of the secondary blade too.

Catt pattern #'s first digit- number of blades,next number of bolsters,next 2 numbers are pattern and last number handle material. Plus the tang stamp is on the wrong side.Good chance it is a part knife put together in the 70's from parts sold well after the factory closed.The pattern for this knife would be something like this 21_ _ 9.I will have to look tonight in my Cattaraugus book to find the pattern.

Closest I see is a 21319.It has a crest shield and a nice swedge on the master blade.Like I said earlier,I believe yours to be a part knife.There are many floating around.

Thanks to all that replied about the Old Cattarugus I think Roger is right it may be a parts knife so Now I know not to sell it. but maybe to find blade that has the correct numbering system and have it put in, then back out to market,I just could not sell something that's not Legit would lose sleep over it I guess back 30 + years ago I was skunk sprayed from buying that knife there may be a few more but that's why I asked good 'ol AAPK 1st Thanks

Does any one has a parts blade that has a 2 on it to replace with a correct # to make it more of a "truthful" knife? B 4 I would put it out for Public display or maybe trade up? I love that bone handle!
