(SCHRADE WALDEN) HELP IS IT FAKE?

I seriously doubt that it is fake. I went over some of my Schrade Waldens and found that about half of them had pattern numbers stamped on them. None of my Schrade Cut Co's did, so I'm thinking that at some point in the Schrade Walden era they began stamping pattern numbers.

It looks right to me and not having a pattern number on the tang should not be a cause for concern. I am not sure at what point they began to stamp pattern numbers but not having one on this knife wouldn't bother me.

I don't see anything wrong with it either. Like Msteele6 said, there was a time after they switched over to the SW stamp, that they did not put the pattern numbers on the blades.

The milled liners even look right on.

Postive vote for authentic. Great knife! Like MSteele and Glennbad mention, early Schrade Walden knives did not necessarily have the pattern number stamped on the pile side. This tang stamp you show is an early Walden. Note the absence of USA after N.Y. I would guesstimate your knife was mfg some time between 1946 to 1953.

The knife you show was listed as the "No. 8" in the 1947 Schrade Walden Catalog (see page four of attachment). By 1953, it was known as the 808, and likely had that number stamped on the back by that time.

I'm not sure if there was a Schrade Cut Co (pre 1946) predecessor to this pattern, or if the Old No. 8 is the original Schrade small stockman.

In the description it mentions the handles are "Stagged", and not described as "Bone Stag". With Schrade, this generally indicated it was a jigged composite plastic. Possibly peachseed celluloid. It also mentions the milled liners.

Many of the Schrade Walden stamped knives, with no pattern stamp on the back you see today on Ebay are not fakes, but recent USA made examples that came out after 2004, when the Taylor folks had Camillus or Bear and Sons making Schrade Walden stamped knives.
