Nice knife Bill ::tu:: ::tu:: ... looks like ivory to me based on grain in handle and not a hint of the Haversian canals seen in bone ... 8) ..

Awesome old Naugatuck barlow! Love the bolsters.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Here is a very fine older knife. In hand it seems to have a 'magic charm'. I think this is from it's perfection of design. Only 2 1/2" and marker "Eagleton/Knife Co". Levine lists this as a brand made by Wester & Butz, Germany in 1890. Hence a brand with only a 1 year existence.
This knife is not marked as to country of origin, which fits, as the law requiring it was passed in 1891.
This is one of my knives that i like best.

That is a dandy little knife Joe, I really like that one! The name being advertised, from what I came up with, is/was a Champagne house from Northeastern France. So, at first I thought that was an opener, I have seen vintage Champagne openers with a similar tip. However, when I enlarged the pic of the underside, it almost looks like a file??? What am I seeing there? What do you make of it?

It is a Gent's knife, with a manicure blade on the bottom. Unfortunately knives that end up posted at the bottom of a page do not get seen by many as most of us just look at the current page.

Roland is it French ivory or the real stuff? It is indeed a very elegant little knife. ::tu::

Thanks for liking my favorite little knife. Handles are very nice pieces of ivory. It is a high end knife by construction and materials yet it seems to be in part advertising. Likely they were given to top clients only. I wish in addition to seeing it, you could also experience how smooth yet crisp the blade action is. It feels perfect despite being 130 years old which amazes me. I am about half as old (73, today !) and i am mostly broken down, but i haven't spent my life in a drawer :)

We sure go back alot of years Mr. Roland. Geez You were buying knives from me when I was just a kid under a different name on ebay nearly 20yrs ago. I have had a couple different names on ebay since my beginnings. I think my first name on ebay was Shabug76 & then it was Ratlesnake75 & now of course its mark-shana.
Kindest Regards,
Mark

Recent pickup. Marsh Brothers and Co superior cutlery Sheffield. Looks like horn handles,5 inches long, probably mid to late 1800s. Thanks for looking!
