So far i have avoided GEC knives with Micarta handles, preferring those with natural handle material. Am i missing out ? Do you like your Micarta GEC's every bit as much as those with bone, wood or stag ?
Micarta is not a 'low end' knife handle. Many top custom knife makers regularly use Micarta. For example, Bob Dozier often uses Micarta and his knives sell for ~ $900.
I don't know why i don't buy GEC knives with Micarta.

kj I'll take a shot at this. I have three micarta GEC knives and I really like them. I'd probably have more but I prefer the Northfield trim better than the Tidioute trim and haven't seen micarta on any Northfields. I really think that micarta fits well on a traditional slip joint especially as it ages with use. I do like the canvas micarta that they used on the Dixie 82's more than the linen because the canvas is more of an open weave and to me more visually appealing. One nice thing about the cloth based micarta is that it is smooth without being slick. I do feel that all the knife companies are missing out by not running some micarta through their jigging machines which would bring out a ton of character in the material, some of the pictures I've seen of jigged micarta shows me that it has a lot more potential for a more premium handle material than just for basic/work knives. Anyway that's my .02, hopes that helps some.

Thank you Trace. I can see that the Micarta with it's smooth even surface does suit the Tidioute which is also fairly 'plain', or essential. If i see a pattern i 'need' with Micarta i will go for it. Micartas are a favorite of the custom knife makers.

That is a most attractive knife. I think for those of us with slow internet connection will find it difficult to get one.

KJ I got one of the 92’s in the Antique Calico bone it is serial #99 which 1-99 were serial#’d I am not super attached to it. If you didn’t end up getting one I would be up for some horse trading possibly!?
