Out with the dog and went by a persimmon tree with some of the fruit beginning to ripen. Sliced One open and then split the seed long ways to reveal the old folklore weather projector. If there is the shape of a spoon inside the seed then you will have heavy snow which requires a shovel oh, the shape of a night indicates icy cold winds which will cut through you like a knife and the shape of a fork indicates a mild winter. It may be a little tough to see in this picture it is an overcast afternoon and the dog was pestering me but there is a spoon shape there. Reliable? Probably more so than listening to Greta thunberg.

Meanwhile, looks as if there will be plenty of snow to shovel this winter in Illinois....

I am not aware of any lore about persimmons predicting the severity of winter - what is the story?

Here is a video that I think is just great. Birds and Bees and Bats and Butterflies. Check out the little hummers when they get into combat. Also be sure to watch for the bat with what looks like a nursing baby.

So, there is this gnarly, old, soft Maple in our woods that I always admire for being a "freak of nature". Just squirrel hunted down there and decided to take a couple of pics and post them. You don't really get the full effect but you can see that it definitely has some character. I need to go down there and check the circumference one of these days.

The last one looks like a frog or koala bear climbing up the side of the tree. Have another look. Or maybe i am losing it.

Let's go with Koala Bear, I have waited my entire life to see one on Illinois, haha! I like that Cudgee! I need to check the leaf pattern on that tree also, maybe I was wrong about it being a Maple.......Eucalyptus??

I like that maple tree, Ike. That is the kind of thing that could give a patch of woods a reputation for being haunted, if a person saw that in poor light.
