Restoration?

Since this is a forum about pocket knives I'm not sure wether it is ok to post a topic about a fixed blade knife...but I'll go ahead anyway.

My neighbor has an old WWII knife that his father gave to him. It's a SA German Knife made by Wilhelm Kober & co. or Wilhelm Kobur & Suhl and has a mark "Th" on the hilt. It is 13 1/2" overall with an 8 1/2" blade that has "Alles Fur Deutchland" (Everyting for Germany) etched into the blade. It apparently has a Pearwood hilt with an inlaid Eagle-swastika and a "SA" emblem.

Except the one we have has slight spotting on the metal parts of the hilt and the blade has a reasonable amount of spots on it. The original brown enamel on the scabbard is scuffed a little and has quite a bit of spotting on it.

The wood on the hilt is in excellent condition, save a few dings here and there.

Should I try polishing the blade? Do you think that I should have the scabbard repaired, and if I should then how would I go about doing that?

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Knives like that are worth more in unrestored condition. I have the American equivalent on the knife that you have unrestored and I have grown to like the blemishes and spots on the blade and scabbard. Keep it the way it is or if you do need to clean it, Bryan has an excellent kit for cleaning knives.

HEY!

Listen to 225Q, that is some good advice. Gaurd against any further rust etc. But DON"T polish it unless you are not caring about the value remaining. Funny thing these knives, unlike most things, it is better to leave them as is.
