Actually I had 6 knives for a while. The knife on the lower right is new to me. I got it on Saturday at a flea market.
It was in a tin pan of one dollar knives that the guy wanted $5 apiece for. I gave him 5 bucks for that knife.
You never know what your going to find.

I've been cleaning out my Dad's place and found these barlows in a dresser drawer. The one on the lower right is stamped, "American Knife Co." over "Japan". Google is not friendly to searches for American Knife Co. Same company? Did they make knives in Japan too?
It appears that it was a pretty decent knife. The scales look like bone to me.

No, American Knife Co., Winsted did not make knives in Japan.
They only made knives in Winsted, Connecticut from 1919 - 1948.

Thanks! So I guess the name was used by a different company after 1948?
I did find it amusing that out of all those Barlows, the only one not made in the USA was the one by the American Knife Co.

American Knife made knives in Winsted , CT till 1955 when the business was destroyed by a flood. In 1948 the business was purchased by the H. Bokar Company. My grandfather was one of the original company founders in 1919 and worked at the company till 1955. We believe that he was the plant manager in 1955. American Knife was the last Connecticut pocket knife manufacturer to go out of business.
