A New Museum in Ellenville

Hey folks, just thought I'd give you guys a heads up on a project I've been lucky enough to be a part of:
A number of history buffs and knife collectors in the Ellenville area (myself included as part of the carpentry division ), have gotten together to form the "Town of Wawarsing Historical and Knife Society" . We're actually in the fetal stage yet since we don't even have a building LOL. It just seemed like a shame that with all the knife history that took place in the immediate area over the past 100+ years, there was no place to record and show the results of this mecca of knife production. A good portion of the displays will be Schrade, but not all, there'll be Ulsters, NYK's, Waldens, Napanochs (this particular collection will knock your socks off!), Honk Falls, Grahamsville, Hudson Valley,...you get the picture. LT is one of the big donators ( or I should say biggest ), and the VP as well, along with "Doc" Craft and a goodly number of other folks who's names I'm not going to post without a consent ( I'm just posting this for informational purposes right now). There'll be membership, probably $25 annually, once things get off the ground. Here's a copy of a flyer Doc Craft had printed up for Napanoch Day handouts, as well as a couple of new additions from area cutleries:D :

That's a worthy effort, Eric!

It's good to see the history come to the forefront, instead of being packed away in some closet.

Count me in, I am really glad something like this is in my area!!! I was just in Elllenville with the former owner of Warren tool, Fred Clark. We had the pleasure to meet the owner of Canal Street Cutlery and tour the shop. I collect mostly New York marked knives and will volunteer to help in any way I can. LT get in touch with me so you can tell me what I can do. Were do I join!!!!

You know I consider this a worthy undertaking, and a benefit to anyone interested in history or cutlery, not just those in the N.Y. area.

LT's collection alone is a museum's worth, and with more additions you folks will have a world class resource for everyone.

I could take off from building outhouses to come up for a day to hold a board, bang on a piece of tin, or swing a paint brush when you're ready. ( Will LT bring the venison sausage ? )

Why not post a printable membership application, and let us lend a little financial support with some dues money ?

Hello all it really is a bit premature for donations or memberships as you may know this has been taking up quite a bit of my time not that anyone has missed my rhetoric but that is the reason for it diminished quantity. Yesterday we were at the NYS Rifle and Pistol Association with a display and drumming up support . Siegler the president of the NRA was there as well as several politicans. We received some invites to go beat the trail at some political barbecues ect. I am glad I had help there I do not do well with politicans. It seems I only truly seem to trust politicans completely when they are face down and no longer using air. I suppose it is comments like these which supports why I do not do well with them. I am OK if I just talk knives. Like I said I did have someone else there who had a bit more finese. Last week we exhibited In Napanoch. EA ( Eric was there he also is much less abrasive than me ). Also at napanoch I did find a kindred spirit Macaroni the clown who I got along with since we both had just about the same size shoes. Which he pointed out to me . I do not know if any of this will ever ackomplish its goal however if anyone remembers the old ant anology I once posted well the ant is still crossing 42nd street. Just thought since Eric posted this I would bring anyone who might be interested up to date. LT

I know it is a monumental task. I hope you recognize there are many out here who appreciate what you, Eric, and your un-named group are doing, and will help when we can, in our long-distance way.

Thanks for the support guys! There IS someone else I forgot to mention who frequents these forums and makes up the other half of the carpentry squad. He goes by druger on AAPK, you've probably seen his post with the awesome display case he built. LT's been doing the lions share of publicity, showing a mess of his displays at both Napanoch day and the NRA meet in Walden, not to mention all the work he's done to get the automatics law through! It's pretty amazing how many folks, upon seeing the displays, say how they've got a bunch of knives squirrelled away in some drawer or closet .
