I was unsure because a whittler is a 3 blade 2 spring knife in which the master blade bears on both springs. The frame of this knife is likely that of a pattern known as an "Anglo-Saxon whittler" but with only one blade it is not a whittler.

I guess the name stuck where it has 2 backsprings it was the first German Eye I saw with one blade and 2 backsprings and the person I bought it off of said it was like a whittler
