Here is a nice Electric Cut Co, Newark NJ. 2 15/16" closed. Half stops x 4.

I wonder if a previous owner tried to line these bolsters. That shoddy attempt belies an otherwise fine knife.

Great find Joe! That's likely an early one judging by those stamps. Perhaps 1890-99.

Cool knife Joe ... who doesn’t like an old congress ... you think the bolsters were modified from the original knife? I am not at all familiar with Electric’s knives... is that bone jack in the last photo an Electric?

The lining of the bolsters looks pretty rough. I hope it wasn't done by Electric Cutlery back in the day.
I think more care would have been taken then. Especially on a four blade pearl congress. It seems out of place but maybe they did it.
It looks like it was ground in with the corner of a carborundum stone. (slight exaggeration)

Yes, the bone jack is an Electric form Walden, NY.

Joe, nice early Congress, I have to agree with you, I think that lining was done by some previous owner and not factory, still a very nice hard to find early knife. Nice Jack also, have the same knife with a spear main and eo notch.

Great pearl congress, Joe! I agree with you and John about the ringed bolsters. The grooves are not parallel and they are deeper in the middle, ie don't follow the contours of the bolster. Also a nice jack.
Very nice condition jack, John! Looks to have not been used much.

Beautiful knives.

Even if done by a previous owner, the cuts on the bolsters are part of that knife's history, just as those extensive etches on that Angry Pruner in another thread.

I have 3 Electric Cut Co.Newark,NJ I have picked up recently. 3 1/4" heavily built jack.Iron bolsters and liners.Stout snap on both blades.

Next is a 2 3/4" barehanded jack.NS bolster and brass liners.It also has a light Electric etch.

Lastly,a 3 1/4" pearl pen knife with a strong Electric etch.

Here is an Electric Cut Co. Jack. Please notice that this one is Newark NJ marked. So it was made prior to 1910 probably around 1903 or so. It is a Jumbo Jack at 3 & 3/4 inches and has those highly desirable deep dark black Ebony handles found on early made antique folders. The blades are full with a lot of the original finish present. Snappy W & T and not a hint of wobble when blades fully deployed. Looks like much of the original factory cutting edge bevel still intact. Just a solid well preserved old Jack! Thanks for looking
