knives to a gun fight or perhapes vice versus

Post by lt632ret »

This is a small collection knife guns and knives that shoot blades (ballistic ) that I have accumulated over the years which addresses a small segment of knife history, This is sometimes called curiousa. First there is a flintlock from the 1800s with a small spring loaded blade . These were invented because flintlocks often misfired and this allowed the owner to resort to the blade for use or protection. These were among the first spring loaded ( switchblades ). The next is a small manual pocket knife that also is a single shot 22 cal pistol. This model is called a defender. It was advertised ( see ads in pic of display ). It was marketed to BOYSCOUTS. advertised as the perfect boyscout knife you could dispatch an animal and process it with the same tool. Anyone could put 5 dollars in coin cash or stamps and have it sent to them. No age no nothing. I am sure that any scout who had a scout meeting after school and wore his uniform also had his gun knife in his pocket. Things have changed a bit since then. The third piece in this group is a bazar This was an early side lever automatic some of yhese also also incoporated a single shot pistol mechanism This particular example has a rear plunger and is 32 cal. Rare in knife guns especially since it is an automatic. The last item in this group is a true ballistic knife. This type of knife was carried by the SPETSNAZ ( Russian special purpose police units ). This knife is not a gun but it is designed to be used as a regular sheath knife or by virtue of a very strong spring can shoot its blade at the target. It is silent and quite deadly. The knife metal cover can be left on and fired in which case the target does not get skewered merely whacked solidly with the blunt metal. At 30 feet when fired blade out it will stick solidly in a piece of plywood It goes through stuff like wall board so I imagine it would be rather severe on people. Ihe picture display pic is a replica sign ( The originals were used in East Germany ) The picture compliation is original, and from my personal collection. I hope you enjoy these pictures this posting is solely for it historical content LT. PS the ballistic knife is not a true Russian example it is a later Chinese version.

Great historical post ::nod::
Knife Magazine (Knife World) had a very detailed and informative story on Knife Guns in one of their older magazines.
Knife Magazine is still posting ALL their past magazine for us to admire, learn and research. However they have not posted all magazines yet, (a work in progress) when the magazine becomes available with this information, I will post the reference here.
It's always important to know what you don't know.

I was talking to Mark at Knifemag.com It is a great reference site. while parts of the site are free complete access is 19.95 and if you are a subscriber to the mag it is only 9.95. I strongly suggest that if you need a great reference or just like the history of this subject to avail yourself of this opportunity. Mark is one of the nicest and knowledgable people in the world regarding this subject. By the way they are not charging until July first so go to knifemag.com and look around. Thankyou for adjusting the pics in my posting I still use a Mavica ( 20 years old) and in fact still have not mastered it. I am not good with computers or cameras and things. I prefer old technology like pens and pencils and Brownie Hawkeye cameras. By the way what is a PM ??????. Thankyou for the nice words about the posting. Regards LT

Now i know why people would say I sent a message but you did not respond . I never got them. How do I clear this thing to see the 11 waiting? I would do better if we went back to homing pidgeons. Charlie, there is a forum called "AAPK Tips & Tricks" that would help with a lot of your questions. The thread regarding Managing Your PM's is here ---► viewtopic.php?f=98&t=50822

Set up your notifications the new way, here ---►

There's also a setting in your control panel that allows old PMs to be deleted automatically, one for each new PM that comes in.

Click on "Private Messages" up by your user name.
On the left side of the screen, click on "Rules, folders & settings"
Do this:

Cool thread, lt632ret. I have always liked the black powder pistols with a folding blade over or under the barrel. I never got one, but they are interesting.

Some folks still like the idea of a blade on their handgun for close up work. Here is a photo I copied from another forum, along with a link to the original forum as a courtesy to the poster of the photo. Note that the firearm is a .22 short and only 3.6 inches long. I think most folks got one of these just because it existed.
