Schrade mother of pearl doubles

Post by lt632ret »

I was putting a newly received knife into a pre 46 Schrade Cut Co display ( Over the years I have accquired three of these.) I keep the higher end Schrade doubles in this display MOP, sterling silver, silver plate, and gold plate. I seldom access this display but since I was in there I took out my Schrade doubles in real mother of pearl and decided to post pics of them. there are 7 three are 3,3/8 tippers three are 3,3/8 no bolster. One of these is particularly rare in that it has an original factory masonic shield in the handle. five of these are Schrade Cut CO one is a norvell Shapleigh the last knife is a 2,7/8 Mother of Pearl Schrade cut co. I thought perhapes some of you might enjoy the pictures. These are getting uqite rare. I would say they are second in rarity only to the gold plate versions. I hope you enjoy the pics. LT PS these are not to be confused with the marine pearl versions which are celluloid .

Very nice collection and display Lt. ::tu:: Needless to say, if you ever decide to liquidate some or all of your Allen Cutlery Company doubles, or the variations, please let me know. Thank you, NWNY.

MOP doubles are hard to come by. Thanks for showing!

Very nice knives, LT. A pleasure to look at.

The fourth one down, under the Masonic shield. looks like it has a manicure blade as a secondary. Is that unusual? Rare?

It is the only one i have like that and I have returned them to the display I do not feel like messing with it again tonite but if memory serves the one in question is the Norvell Shapleigh . I mis read your post you said he one beneath the masonic. I thought you ment that the masonic had the file. Yes it is the one below it and is the Norvell. It is as I said my only example of this in pearl.with a file. LT

Unusual, no. There are a number of double switches in the catalogs with a secondary file blade.

When I first started collecting in 1988, I saw some knives on a table at a local antiques show at a shopping mall.

One was a slender, pearl-handled, double-switch by Press Button.

Both blades functioned, but neither would open completely.

Pearl on both sides was intact.

Ninety dollars was the asking price.

I passed on it.

Regrettably.

I have the larger version of that knife press button pearl I paid 1200 in money and trade. I passed on a 2,7/8 . press in pearl. for 600 because the guy wanted out of our original deal and I got ticked off since we had shook hands on it. I am still looking for that knife. The only knifes that i regret are the ones I did not buy. The response to the pearl knives I posted seems to have been well received so I decided to go back into that case and post pics of the rest of the knives in it There are 2 sterling 3,3/8. two small silver metel 2,7/8. 2 silver metal unusual pattern 3,3/8 ( one is an embossed advertiser,) 2 3,3/8 silver metal. and three gold plate two are 2,7/8 one is a 3,3/8 the 3,3/8 is my favorite very rare and this one is a salesmans sample. I got it from the granddaughter of the sherriff of Walden ( in the 1920s) who carried it. Where he got it I do not know. This version has been very difficult to find and yes I paid somewhat over 90 dollars. But as a( singer named Bobby Bare used to say in a song ( But I got her boys and thats what makes me the WINNER???????? LT
