I Googled Proto mechanics tools and found a page on the Stanley web site. http://www.stanleyproto.com/default.asp ... istory.htm

Hope the link works but it is a company bought out in the 1980s by Stanley. After a law suite by the Plumb hammer Co. for making a Plomb ball peen hammer they held a contest to change the name.
