Getting older has its blessings and curses. Time seems to fly by at a faster rate.
That means "less" time with the grand kids.
But it's also "less" time dealing with the aches, pains, loss of memory, hearing and eyesight that comes with old age!
Take care and God bless,

Way to go Steve.
We had some “character building“ today. I bought 80 square bales of hay and the big boys and I picked it up out of the field, loaded it and u loaded it into the hayloft. This was their first time hauling hay, lol. Took the sap right out of them. Hauling hay is good for young boys. Makes em grow.
The clean up crew highly approved of the new hay.

Those look like some tired boys, Colonel! I am not sure how old I was when I first loaded hay, but I sure remember that it was hard work. It is good character building outdoor work, right?

Back in the mid 90’s when I was in high school, us boys earned most of our money hauling hay and working in tobacco. Tobacco usually paid more, but in between setting and topping, and then topping and cutting we hauled hay. Hay hauling paid $4 an hour at the time, and we were proud of every dollar.Dinadan wrote:Those look like some tired boys, Colonel! I told the boys today how we’d haul hay or work in tobacco all day, come home and clean up, then go to town and get a burger, cruise a bit, and wind up at the bowling alley.
Not sure I could fit all that in in one day now. Lol.

I’ve heard of that wage. I told them they got paid every time their elbow bent and their mouth opened.Doc B wrote:Awesome! You could always pay them...what the old-timers said they were getting paid...a penney a bale

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Love the pics. Thanks for sharing, Colonel.
Guess I grew up living the easy (soft) life.
Grew up an Air Force brat. Tossed hay bales just one afternoon at a buddy's place. Had two seasons of picking potatoes up in northern Maine. Of course my growing up was before cell phones, video games, and 24-hour cartoon networks, so time was spent outside riding bikes and playing baseball and football.
Oh, well. God has a plan and who am to argue. I have no complaints.

This is sort of an Outdoor picture. We made 45 pounds of bulk venison sausage for our pastor's freezer yesterday. There is probably a picture of the deer these scrapes came from back last season some where in the thread.

That's a fine one, Scott, big enough to filet.
What did the grandson use to catch it? If a Bass would fight like a bluegill they'd be tough to land.

Cool, Scott. Tell those boys that if they fall off the board walk they are going to be gonners! Between snakes, quick sand, leeches, and poison ivy they won't have a chance. Looks just like a lot of places around here.

Mel, them little fellers could make it right there. I bet there is a fish or two in a deep hole in that little branch (creek to some folks) and I see several cabbage trees. Swamp cabbage and fish can't be beat.
Scott does a great job introducing youngsters to the outdoors!
