cleaning off green tarnish and small rust spots

Greetings all,

I'm new to the group and I have a couple of questions regarding knife care, as I am a beginner. This may have been discussed before, and if so, please point the way. I inherited a knife collection, and I wish to take care of it for many years to come. Overall, the collection looks great, but there are knives here and there that show signs of green tarnish. I was able to remove the green, but where it was present it looks like some finish removed. Is there a way to restore this? Also, there are a few knives that look new otherwise, but have a rust spot here and there (on blade or bolster). Is there a way to remove or restore this? And are knives, which look new otherwise, that show a spot or two of rust considered "near mint?" Many thanks in advance for any help on this.

welcome paul. are the rusting knives handled with celuloid? if so, will require special attention.

A piece of flannel cloth and a drop of "Simi chrome" or "Flitz" polish will take care of the tarninsh and light rust spots.
